Fed's match might be another step on the way toward the GOAT coronation, but the real fun lies in tomorrow's other semi - Sweden's Robin Soderling v. Chile's Fernando Gonzalez.
Soderling's been in new territory this go round. Never this deep in a Slam through his career (furthest he has ever gotten is 3rd round at the French, Wimby and US). Ever since the 2nd set against David Ferrer, everyone has been waiting to see him be sent home. And he keeps coming up with the necessary goods. Gonzo's in the 2nd semi-final of his career (he's never lost a semi at a Slam!). Previous successes at RG include 2 Quarter Finals ('03 and '08). He's also far more accomplished on clay, with 8 clay titles in the course of his career (all 3 of Robin's titles have been on carpet). Career H2H: 4-3, Fernando. 2 matches on clay, Gonz won both. They haven't played since 2007, and Robin hasn't beaten Fernando since 2006 (all 3 of Robin's wins were on hardcourts). |

Battle of two players I don't like. I want Gonzo to win. Having said that, I think Soderling has a better chance of beating Fed at the final (yes people, I'm grasping at straws here), so it would be better if Robin wins.
All in all, don't really care that much, just don't want them to go five sets and be tired for the final. |
