I see potential for a fair number of upsets on Day 1.

How healthy is defending champion Ivanovic? Errani can play a decent clay game. Lleyton could definitely get under Karlovic's skin - and Karlovic has not been near the top of his game lately. Gaston has been playing well, be interesting to see if he can keep it up against Radek. Roberta Vinci can make some trouble for Vika. And Simon had a disasterous week in Germany, while Wayne-O might not be a master of red dirt, Gilles is clearly slumping, and if someone is ripe for the picking, it might be him.

I give Hewitt the edge and I give Odesnik a good shot.

Ivanovic should be fine.

I hope Hewitt does beat Karlovic. The newspapers over here are saying Murray might have some difficulty with Chela but I think he shouldn't have too much bother with him.

It has begun!

I just went to 7-11 for supplies. I have two hot dogs, a 64 oz Diet Coke, a bag of Lays chips, and a Carmello candy bar. (I don't expect to eat all this, but I wanted to be ready.)

I'm using ESPN360 to click back and forth between Ivanovic/Errani and Diatchenko/Johansson.

Diatchenko/Johansson looks fun because I love seeing two scrubs battle it out. This is Diatchenko's first main draw slam match. She lost the first set in all three of her qualie matches but came back. She has a tiny waist and a pretty decent set of... whatever knickname for breasts you prefer... so I think I'll be watching most of this match. She has a crazy, loopy, and basically terrible serve. Johansson is now serving at 2-1 30-15.

I went to Ivanovic/Errani for a second out of curiosity. Ivanovic held first and played some good power points to get to 0-40 on Errani's first service game. Sad. It looked like this was a perfect match up for her. But wait! Errani started playing aggressively and came back to hold! We have a match on our hands.

I'll check Karlovic/Hewitt next.

Safe to watch now that the screaming baby has been turned off. It was crying for the first two games!

Johansson is now up 4-1 against Diatchenko. I could see how Diatchenko (nickname pending) could lose sets 6-2 and still come back to win. She seems very streaky, and she throws in a lot of junk balls. Her serve and slice groundstrokes are very weird. On the plus side, she has a great backhand down the line.

Swinging back to Ivanovic/Errani.

Ivanovic was serving at 3-1 but was broken. I only saw the last point where Ivanovic missed a high swinging volley. The commentator says Ivanovic double faulted twice in that game. Errani will serve at 2-3.

Oh, go eat a hot dog.

My commentator was just telling us details of Lleyton and Bec's marriage. He thinks it seems to be a happy one, but she might be traveling with him too much to the detriment her acting career...

And I wasn't making things up, the umpires are wearing Lacoste (but Adidas is the official sponsor)

Ivanovic is looking characteristically uneven out there. Not awful though. I'm not really a fan of hers but I know I've got to be in the minority when I say that I really love it when she pumps her fist and squeals and spins around and I've never gotten tired of it. I think it's kind of endearing I guess. Even though she does it like 3 times a game...

The commentator said Errani was "quite the terrier."
