I'm shocked that the sisters are on opposite sides of the draw again... not that it does them much good here.

We got a Marbella rematch with Zakopalova playing S Williams. Interesting that Zvonareva has not withdrawn as of now so I take it her ankle must be ready to go. Potential Charleston rematch in the 2nd round with Lisicki and V Williams. Will be very interesting to see how the first week plays out.

Of course, the ONE time I really, really wanted Venus to land in Serena's half, and I don't get my way. Figures.

Maybe this is a good time for Venus to draw Sabine... The drubbing she took in Charleston will be fresh in her mind. And I'm not sure how fit Sabine is. She's had some injury issues and may not get out of her first round match unscathed. But even IF things went Venus' way, it's not like it's clear sailing for her. There's still a lot that can go wrong.

I guess the upside is that Flavia is nowhere to be found in that section.

and Svetlana..and Jelena

eh. I'm not going to be optimistic, though. The last time I was optimistic and got my hopes up, she lost in the first round.

Besides Safina I have no idea who's getting out each quarter. This should be fun to predict...

I don't know that Dinara is a guarantee, to be honest. Not because of competition so much as the weight of expectation. She's getting so much press, which can only ramp up the pressure cooker between her ears. And she's looked disastrous in the 2 Slam finals she's played so far.

I hope she can hold it together, because more than anything, I want to be stunned and awed by an amazing two weeks of womens tennis. But I'm always a little leery when someone has to deal with the pressure of being "the", not "a" favorite for the first time.

Definitely think that Safarova could beat Sabine, BTW. Depending, of course (as we say about 99.99% of the WTA these days), on which Lucie decides to show up. AND, of course- no saying that V will beat either one. Still- if V wanted a good draw through to the Semis.....AND then, let's hope Moose is a prophet about Dinara. I am with Moose on this. You never know how a player will react to being No. 1 AND the favorite.....

I was saying in chat when the draw came out that Dinara really better make it to at least the final. All the other healthy, serious contenders are in the other half. How far does she have to go to stay #1, by the way? And how far would Venus and Serena have to go to supplant her?

I see a whole lot of problems for Dinara, even with this draw.

Ana's beaten her the last three times they played. Azarenka is one of the hottest hands in the game right now. Szavay's got her mojo back. Venus almost beat her at Rome. And while she retired from her match in Madrid, do we know about Kaia's current health? She got to the quarters last year, and is a very good clay court player, from what I recall.

what's wrong with Dementieva's section? I kind of like it: I think her eight of the draw is relatively easy, and then Jankovic and Caro will play a long three-setter in the fourth round and the winner will be too tired in the quarters, so Elena will reach the semis... Of course, that's in my dream world.

Venus doesn't often lose to a scrub twice in a row, so I'm ok with a potential Lisicki second round. What happened to Sabine being injured?

Serena vs. Nicole round two? Sweet Chocolate Jesus.
Dina really should be able to make the finals. As much as I'd love for either Kleybanova or Azarenka to take her out, I can't see it happening on this surface.

Either way, goodluck to my girls. Allez!
