Default Wimbledon Seeding System
There's a nice conversation about Wimbledon seedings starting in the Rome thread.

It's early, but I think it's fun enough for its own thread.

Have at it!

I googled "Wimbledon Seeding System" and came across a pretty funny article about Murray. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008...rss&feed=sport

It's from last year. He was unhappy that he was seeded 12th and said they should just use the rankings (he was ranked 11th, btw ). He also said that he was one of the best grass court players in the world. At the time, his best grass result was reaching the 4th round at Wimbledon in 2006.

I'm trying to find the official rules for seeding.

I know that they do have an official system. I think it has something to do with adding last years grass points and half of the grass points from two years ago to the current ranking points.

This is what I remember, too.

I haven't found an official thing.

This was on another forum

Gentlemen
The seeds are the top 32 players on the ATP Entry System Position (ESP), BUT then rearranged on a surface-based system. A seeding committee is not required for the Gentlemen's Singles since the seeding order is determined using an objective and transparent system to reflect more accurately an individual player's grass court achievements: The formula is:

* Take ESP points at 19 June 2006
* Add 100% points earned for all grass court tournament in the past 12 months
* Add 75% points earned for best grass court tournament in the 12 months before that.

And in 2007 as a result of the formula: Nikolay Davydenko drops to sixth in the seedings, but Novak Djokovic, and the Chilean Fernando Gonzalez move above Davydenko to take fourth and fifth spots
