Guillermo Coria, 27, officialized his retirement today.
http://www.infobae.com/contenidos/44...ró-Willy-Coria After trying to return he called it quits. "I'm very happy with the decision." he explained. He also said that he no longer felt the desire to compete. "I've taken the decision that I'm not going to play again. I had been thinking about it for a few months. In Thailand I realized that I had trouble travelling, it wasn't only the serve." He will devote himself to his family and projects (tennis clinics and Tv commentator). :: Such a shame this kid. The mother of all mental cases. How can one lose himself and his game so quickly... We need a new contest, analog to the Racquet Tossing one: The Mental Case Awards, the statue being a replica of Coria losing at RG. |

this FO final was probably the most heartbreaking final I have ever watched. I actually started out rooting for Gaudio, but felt just terrible for Coria in the end... |

Coria seemed kind of like a prima donna to me. His game was okay...on clay. One of the funniest matches I ever saw was him against Agassi at the Aussie Open. Agassi seriously ran him back and forth for about 2 hours, and by the 3rd set, Coria just gave up. Defaulted the match and went back to the wonderful AC of his hotel room.

as shtexas said i certainly never imagined that coria would only have the one shot at glory. on clay he was a genius, could not be touched. or at least so i thought at the time.
sad that he'll likely be remembered, not for reaching the fo final, but for choking it away, or for his ban. or for hot carla... |

I'm right there with you tinamarie. I started rooting for Gaudio but I also felt that Coria would one day (maybe the next year) win one. Everytime I see/hear that match talked about (like the top 5 chokes on the tennis channel), I feel his pain all over again and I wish he could have somehow won that one. |

spa http://www.infobae.com/contenidos/44...itario-y-final spa http://www.infobae.com/contenidos/44...quebró-y-lloró Fragments of his press conference where he broke down and cried: As the minutes went by, the former number three of the world became emotional and, between tears, said: "I started receiving hits, and when I went to sleep, I'd feel regret." "I didn't have that maliciousness of wanting to beat the rival. I went on to be the good guy on the court. And to achieve things you have to have that instinct of wanting to defeat your rival." "I was not having a good time on court. I had trouble getting motivated." He also recognized that the whole doping issue hit him hard and that he didn't rule out playing Bs As '10 as his final farewell. |
