Default Question: Who has a foundation?
Besides Roddick and Federer, do any other active ATP players have an active foundation? What about retired - other than Agassi? Is this a common thing?

I'm doing a little research. Thanks for your help!

off the top of my head:

Nadal and Robredo have very active foundations as I'm learning this week

Gasquet launched his a year or two ago

A lot of players work with the Laureus Sport for Good foundation, if that helps

Serena, Venus, Justine, Kim. Pretty much every top player does. Go to players websites. If they have a foundation, they usually have some information about it on their site.

Funny, after elisat posted pictures of Santana with Rafa at one of his foundation events (which I didn't even know existed), I was wondering how many players had started charities. Seems like a better idea to focus less on starting your own thing from the bottom up, and working more to help already existing charities.

Tax reasons maybe?

Maybe because they will have more control of how the money is used.

This is often the truth. However, I wouldn't discount some degree of altruism as well. It's the degree to which both motivations mix that varies.

I would agree that this is the primary reason.

sometimes they even don't have to fork the money themselves. In the case of Gasquet, it's Lagardère who is completely subsidizing the foundation. It's like some sponsorship money is given to create the foundation and it's overheads from the sponsors who run it too.

Mardy fish has a foundation too and the Bryan Brothers too.

If I were loaded, and I had the time to run my own foundation, I'd do that rather than give to existing charities. I could make sure the money is going exactly where I want it to go, and not have to worry as much about doing extensive research into other NFPs.

If I didn't have the time to commit to my own foundation, then I would probably consider giving to other groups.
