Roger accepted a wild card to Monte Carlo

Dear Fans

I have decided to accept a wildcard into the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters tournament that begins on Monday. I will head there this weekend to start the clay court season.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support.

I agree, but this decision also implies that he must not be having any physical problems. Otherwise, he would have stayed home trying to recover. But then if not physical problems, why so many double faults and unforced errors??

Good, it was rumored for some time that he will accept a last minute WC. At the same time, add to 6 his number of consecutive defeats at the hand of Rafa

He first needs to get there, no? Not so obvious any more...

Will be interesting to see how Roger plays against Andy if they meet since Andy is the biggest question on clay?

Yeah, Murray is the biggest question on clay. He has to go pass the Round of 16

He should be able to do well... at least I can't think of anything in his game that wouldn't seem to translate well onto clay?

"Several months ago I announced that Roger had not planned to take part as he had modified his clay-court preparation. But, knowing his attachment to the tournament, we never lost hope that he would nevertheless be there this year; we have been proven right and are very proud,” announced tournament director Zeljko Franulovic http://www.atpworldtour.com/tennis/1...ticle_2994.asp

You need to be able to whack the crap out of the ball on clay. And with topspin. All that is not what Murray does best. Also, on clay most people get more serves back, so his return of serve skills are diminished . He also, for some reason is less comfortable moving on clay vs hard court. He should be able to get much better results than in prior years, but I will have to see myself if he can start being a threat on this surface.

Overall, the reasons of his less than stellar clay court record so far are similar to those Hewitt had in his career. But since he is bigger talent than Hewitt, he might be able to overcome it.

Because he is not in good place mentally... he played some decent tennis in early rounds in Miami only to start falling apart in his match vs. Roddick, in which he got lucky to get through. Of course next match was a complete disaster. I am happy he is playing and I think he honestly thinks he has better chance of reaching finals on clay now than on hard.

Gasquet is out.

Google(edited by me) translation.

As suggested by our colleagues from RTL-L'équipe Friday morning, Richard Gasquet has withdrawn from the tournament in Monte Carlo, which begins Monday, because of persistent pain in his
right shoulder. The French, 23rd World, had already relinquished the tournament in Miami last week for the
same reason. He has not played since his defeat in the 3rd round of Indian Wells in early March.
