Marion is probably a late entrant? They must have already awarded wildcards for the main draw so it was qualifying or nothing?
wasn't there...what was the answer? They really wouldn't WC her into the main draw, only qualies?
Yes, she was late entrant. The organizers declined to give her a WC.
More info here http://marionbartoli.blog.co.uk/2009...fiers-5875702/

In other news she had a very difficult first round in qualies http://www.marion-bartoli.net./

This is just out copied from some news on the internet:

The final rounds of the Andalucía Tennis Experience get under way tomorrow, and the players that are not involved in the preliminary matches are getting ready for their debuts. These include Jelena Jankovic, Vivi Ruano and Carla Suárez, who this afternoon swapped the clay courts in the tournament venue for the sand courts on Marbella’s beach. The tennis stars have used the day to play an exhibition beach tennis match along with the Tournament Director, Conchita Martínez, in a relaxed and good humoured atmosphere. The three players and the former Wimbledon champion have had the opportunity to discover this new form of tennis, and also enjoy the wonderful climate and the spectacular views of the Costa del Sol. After the game, Jankovic, who will be playing in one of the most interesting opening day clashes against Italian Schiavone, said “I am really looking forward to starting. I feel ready and strong enough to play a good tournament”. Former Russian footballer, Alexander Mostovoi, who is Marbella to watch the tournament, also took the chance to get involved in the game. Serena Williams, meanwhile, has confirmed that she will be arriving at Malaga airport in the early afternoon tomorrow at 12:55. There is massive expectation ahead of the arrival on Andalusian soil of the best female player in the world. Once arrived, the US-American will head towards the Puente Romano Tennis Club to recover from her trip and start preparing her first match against the Czech Zakopalova.

Heh heh, looks like Serena is bound and determined to play in Spain......
