Default Ana/Vera: WHO YA GOT?
The 2009 BNP Paribas at Indian Wells Final. No whale at stake this time, but this is huge for both of these ladies.

So many have been waiting for Ana's slide to end. How appropriate that, at a huge event where she is defending champion, the form that so may of us thought would propel her to the top is showing signs of returning. The WTA is a sport that thrives on stars, and I'm sure there are a lot of tournament organizers (and fans) hoping that Ana truly is getting back on top of her game.

Vera - has she, at 24, finally buried all her singles demons, and considers herself a top player? She's done so well in doubles at Slams, and she's been riding an upward arc for some time now. No more teary outbursts, and it seems she is giving away less and less. Now the big challenge - can she pay her best tennis in the final of a huge event? She's never taken a Premiere/Tier 1 title, and winning this final would be huge for her (and would be another big step forward, after a career first Slam SF at the Australian).

Career H2H: 4-3 Ivanovic. 3-2 on hardcourts (Ana beat Vera at IW last year in the quarters, 1 and 4). Last year's tour championships was the first time they went 3 (Vera won, 6-4 in the 3rd), all their other 6 matches were straight sets. Only 1 final, Linz last year, which Ana won.

Ana in 2. Welcome back, Miss Ivanovic. There is still work to do, but I think you finally are back on the right track.

I picked Vera in 3. I think she wants a Tier I title badly, and this is her best shot.

I would absolutely love Bepa to win, but I think Ivanovic will win it in straight sets.

Vera in 2. Ana served great against someone she could tell immediately she'd have no trouble with, and whose serve was insanely easy to crush. Ana will have a lot more to think about with Vera.

And yet, if Vera doesn't manage to win in straights, she'll lose the match.

There's no option for "no-score draw"...

Surprised that so many are picking Vera.

If all else fails, Vera will find a way to choke this away. (Although, granted, it ain't exactly a Slam final.....) I sez, Ana in two, and then let the REAL games begin in Miami.

I think Ana loves Indian Wells and that it loves her. I think she'll get it done and show everyone she's back to the top of the game.

Is there a "crying in 3" option?

That option is saved for the audience.

I'm feeling Vera. But, like has been said above, it cannot get complicated.

oh yes Ana is back!!! : without playing against any top ten players for the duration of the entire tournament + with her adversary not playing the quarters + with the most dangerous seed (on hard court) gone early/Dementieva, with the Williamses no show: yippiiiii Ana Ivanovic is back!!!!!!!!!!!!

come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that being said I'm not sure Vera will have enough moxie to win.

So someone in 3!

I have no insight into this match, but whoever wins, I'll be happy (in a predictions vs. favourites kind of way).
