If we are still giving out awards for best injuries. I feel a mixture of genuine pity for her and disbelief that anyone could be stupid enough to sit on a skate hard enough to puncher themselves. I hope she gets better soon. I wouldn't mind her coming back on tour at all. |

And this gem from Mr. Noam Okun: A lot of male players don't like women's tennis (some commentator said Henin is the only one players in the men's locker room ever watch), but to say it's undeserving of attention and that what Shahar does is easy is something else. I'd like to ask him why Shahar is getting more attention than Erlich and Ram. I miss Harel Levy being the token male Israeli player. He was nice. |

Speaking of golf and tennis (in a different thread)
Mercedes-Benz to end sponsorship of ATP Tour BERLIN, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Mercedes-Benz said on Friday it will end its 11-year sponsorship of men's tennis when its current deal with the ATP Tour expires at the end of 2008. The DaimlerChrysler luxury car unit, which has backed the tour since 1996, said in a statement it wanted to shift the focus of its marketing activities to golf, horse riding and soccer, as well as fashion and lifestyle. "Over the years our partnership with the ATP has had a very high-brand fit for Mercedes-Benz but we are now adding a new angle to our revised brand positioning," said Olaf Goettgens, vice president of brand communications for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. The ATP said in a separate statement it was in discussions with a number of potential new sponsorship partners. The men's tour will undergo significant changes from the start of 2009, with new tournaments, mandatory player participation and record prize money, it added. http://uk.reuters.com/article/UK_TEN...35096020070928 |

Roger Federer pulls out of Japan Open tennis
TOKYO (AP) -- Roger Federer has pulled out of the Japan Open tennis tournament. "I'm so disappointed that I have to withdraw from the Japan Open," Federer said in a statement released by organizers Friday. "I have not physically recovered 100 percent from the U.S. Open and Davis Cup." Federer said that he was told by his doctor that in order to avoid the risk of serious injury he should not play in a tournament for at least 10 days. Federer defeated Britain's Tim Henman 6-3, 6-3 in last year's Japan Open final. Organizers have said that Spain's David Ferrer and France's Richard Gasquet have been added to the men's bracket. American Venus Williams, currently playing in South Korea, has been added to the women's bracket for the tournament, which begins Monday. http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns |
