Default Federer out of Dubai and DC!!
From RogerFederer.com

OFF COURT - DUBAI AND DAVIS CUP

Dear Fans,

Today I am disappointed to announce that I am withdrawing from both Dubai and the Davis Cup tie in the United States. This was a hard decision to make as I am missing not only one of my favorite events on tour in Dubai but I am also missing out on an opportunity to help my country try and move on to the next round of Davis Cup. After injuring my back last fall, I did not have enough time to strengthen it completely. As a precautionary measure, I will use the next few weeks to make sure the back injury is fully rehabilitated and I am ready for the rest of the 2009 season.

As always, thanks for your continued support.
Roger

Those back to back Masters 1000 events strike again.

No!!!

I sort of suspected something was wrong with the back, given Roger's serving woes of late. But this is just absolutely terrible!

Anyways, he didn't have any points to defend at Dubai. So, I guess this was the best time to take an extended break. But what a relief for the American DC team!

Hope those uncharacteristic double faults go away now with this injury...

And all the selfish Americans breathe a sigh of relief for Davis Cup.

Well another win for the US Davis Cup team. Another round of DC for me to attend! It would have been tough to cheer against Fed. Heck it was really tough for me to cheer against Rafa in Madrid but my country comes first.

OK, this means after the US beats Switzerland I'll be traveling to either Chile or Croatia in the Summer.

Except those of us who were really hoping to watch Federer play in person.

Come to Indian Wells!

Well, I guess it doesn't really count that we hung out with about 50 people watching Roger for a half hour on a practice court.

You'll still get to experience the great atmosphere of Davis Cup and meet a few TATeurs at our little Tailgate on Friday, March 6 about an hour before the matches begin!

Back injuries are scary. I hope he takes whatever time is necessary to recover.

You're simply a fan of TENNIS? Wild.

Maybe, this puts a different twist on why he was so disappointed after the final...

Oh that's right! Isn't that where Murray beat him in the first round? Hard to believe that Murray wasn't ranked high enough to be seeded 12 months ago.

Murray was ranked 11 at the time

I hope this is just precautionary.

I'm with pam. I really wanted to see Roger play in Birmingham.

But at least this gives the US team a lot more hope.

Been there, done that - in 2006 (except I didn't have any fellow TAT'eurs for company )

Purchased my Spring Fling T-shirt this morning
The trick will be getting my hubbie to agree to join the Tailgate.
