In her career as a profesionnal tennis player, Clijsters won no less than 34 titles. She is a former number 1 at the WTA ranking. In 2005 she won her only Grand Slam at the US Open. |

Moose, I know how badly you want this (heck, she was my favourite player too), but I really believe it's not going to happen. Her retirement wasn't a spur-of-the-moment thing, it was planned long in advance (just accelerated a bit by the pregnancy). I think it was always clear how important motherhood and family-ness was to her--I don't believe that she'd have any regrets about her decision now. As for her being an easy top-three player now--well, she was always frustrating to follow, and not mentally strong either. Throw in the little injuries she always seemed to have, and I think she's just another one in the mix from 1-8, depending on what phase of the moon it is this week. |

I don't know if I want her back, I don't know if I can go through it all again. Knowing her she'll play really well, will totally become my #1 favourite player all over again, then she'll either get another injury or get pregnant again and I will be heartbroken all over again. |

I think her comeback would have about the same ceiling as Davenport. Her best days are behind her but she still would have a very solid game and is capable of winning smaller tournaments but not really being a factor at Majors anymore. It would be nice to see her playing competitively again but I think her expectations (and ours) should be tempered.

I'm not sure why people are doubting her ability to contend at majors again. She's 25 years old.
Look at the Top-10. It's in the worst shape it's been in since I started watching tennis in the late 90s. To say that the WTA is in a mess right would be generous. Some players that Kim should and probably world beat 9 out of 10 times: Jankovic, Zvonareva, Kuznetsova, Ivanovic, Radwanska, Petrova, Bartoli, etc. etc. etc. Of course I base this on the assumption of renewed interest in the sport. She was losing to the likes of Vakulenko before she left. But if her head's in the right place again, she's still Top-5 material without a doubt in my mind. |

Being a fan of a player who's done what you fear, Lindsay "retiring", having a baby, coming back, and then retiring again I have to admit I had these same fears, but the second time wasn't painful. When Lindsay announced she was pregnant again, I wasn't heartbroken like I was the first time, it felt right this time. If Kim returns, look at it as pure icing. You have had all the cake, the titles, the slam, this time around, if she does return, each win means so much, as much as those titles she had already won did. If anything, Lindsay's return, although brief, was closure for me as her fan. I have been able to let her go since, she'll always be my number one, but I'm happy for her and not heartbroken. I've just remembered how upset you were when Lindsay retired, so if you be this pragmatic about her 2nd pregnancy there must be some hope for me surviving it with Kim! |
