I am not a Maria fan, but the thing is that WTA is becoming somewhat weak at the very top. Justine retired, Maria is out long term with an injury, Ana is very suspect psychologically, MoMo is long past her prime and Sveta is a mental basket case. That leaves only V&S as proven GS winners in decent form... |

Cronin, in his subscriber newsletter, says don't expect to see Maria til Indian Wells. She's going to take her time rehabilitating and getting match fit, figuing that's the wiser approach for her long term career.
He also said that her shoulder injury was misdiagnosed initially, which is why she ended up having surgery so late after the troubles appeared. I wouldn't want to be the doctor on the receiving end of that lawsuit! I've stated it before, I'm not a fan. But she's good for the game, and I wish her a speedy and successful recovery. The WTA is a much better place when all of it's top players are healthy and playing great tennis. |
