Default Your New Year Wishes
What do you most fervently wish for, in terms of tennis in 2009? Other than your faves winning all majors

Well then, if Venus can't win The Slam, I'll wish that Lindsay plays another season, and finishes at least in the Top-10.

I'd love to see Kimmie returning with no injuries.

For the WTA: return of AnnaC and Sania to their hard court tennis rivalry
For the ATP: rise of Gulbis, continuation of Tsonga, a better year for Gasquet, and less year-end injuries

I want (in random order):

1a) Kim Clijsters returns to competitive tennis.
1b) Justine stays away.
2) Venus to win the French/Wimbledon double (no, I have NOT been drinking)
3) A major title for Safin and a return to the top 10.
4) A major title for Dementieva.
5) The rapid demise of Roadkill.
6) Someone else besides Nadal to win the men's French Open title--probably Federer. That major is getting severely boring on the men's side.
7) The Paszeks get it together.
8) Larry Scotty resigns in disgrace after it's revealed that he prostituted himself to tournament officials, mostly Canadians.
9) Andy Murray wins Wimbledon.
10) Lindsay wins Indian Wells and then announces her second pregnancy in her post-match presser.
11) Max Mirnyi quits tennis for full-time fishing and spares us the agony of his matches.
12) Nole's parents are suddenly struck with a bizarre case of chronic muteness.
13) Alexandra Stevenson leaves tennis after landing the lead role in the off-Broadway adaptation of "The L Word".
14) Marion Bartoli becomes a nun.
15) In a drunken stupor, Justin Gimelstob makes a pass at Chanda Rubin, she castrates him, and he is summarily fired from Tennis Channel because all he can talk about on air is which guy is wearing the prettier outfit.

5) The rapid demise of Roadkill.
I'll add:
1. Gasquet to get his shit in order and play up to his potential
2. Return of Coria
3. Return of healthy Sharapova
4. Ana wins another major
5. MedicAid gets Craybas that prosthetic hip she's been needing
6. Fed's complete downfall
7. Dinara wins a major

I'll trade all of it for a Rafa sweep though...

1. Amelie defeats Alize Cornet in the French Open final

Anything else can happen after that. It would just blow my mind.

Okay, in 2009 in all seriousness, what I would like to see is:

1. Nole loses every event he enters

2. Gulbis makes it to the top ten

3. Roger Federer wins every slam and most of the other events and all of the masters that he enters..

4. Marat Safin stops Federer from getting a Grand Slam in 2009, dumps blondie, and once again becomes a contender in tennis

5. Serena Williams wins another grand slam....i.e. no "Serena" slam this year, a CALENDAR year grand slam

6. Venus Williams wins a grand slam

7. Alize Cornet makes it to at least the semi's of every slam except the French, that she becomes France's new hero and WINS IT FOR FRANCE!

8. Momo retires.....and then comes raging back

9. Justine comes back and gets her ass kicked

10. Jelena Dokic comes back.....and makes it to top ten by the end of 2009!

hmmmm I could go on.....

Let me also add that.....I hope Maria Sharapova is healthy and returns to the game. She isn't a favorite of mine BUT she adds so much life to tennis and she always makes me smile and I love it when my grunt o' meter registers off the charts when the women are playing. Maria has been missed.

My wishes and without dreaming too much:

1) Roger wins at least one slam and gets back to #1

2) Ana wins a slam and becomes a consistent #1

3) Someone other than Rafa wins RG

4) Ernests reaches his first GS SF and top 10 as well

5) Caro get to at least one GS SF and qualifies for YEC

6) All women's GS finals go the distance

7) Andy M. has a better year than Nole

8) Jelena wins a GS

9) Economic downturn doesn't impact tennis too severely

10) I finally win a SP!!!
