I've been hearing that bit about "no pressure" for 5 years.

I wonder if she's found a replacement for Courteau.
She did: his name is Hugo Lecoq and was previously the hitting partner for the Fed Cup. Amélie knows him for a while. He is a newcomer at this level of coaching (never coached anyone actually, let alone a slam winner with confidence issues) but she said she needed something new while not being in "the unknown", so that's why she chose him.

Lecoq says that he wants to focus on her serve and forehand as well as her return game.He talks of pushing her to go for more, take initiative.

So far his ideas look good!!

Didn't we see her lose to Alona twice?
Yeah. Three times if you count the fact that she and Kuznetsova lost to Alona and Alona.

Amelie discussing her decision (in English):

“I was not that far from packing it all in because I was so far away from getting back to the level that I wanted to play at,” Mauresmo told L’Equipe sports daily. “But I am not the kind to take hasty decisions and so I though it over and decided to continue playing. “I want to prove to myself that I am strong enough to get back to my best form. I am not too much interested in where I am in the rankings but I want to be able to win tournaments again. “My last title was in Antwerp in 2007 and quite frankly I miss all that. I really want to once again be playing in big tournaments feeling that I can win them by beating the best players.”

Mauresmo, who reached the world No.1 spot in 2007 after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon, said that she was also encouraged by the instability at the top of women’s tennis since the retirement earlier this year of Justine Henin. “For the moment I am not looking past next year,” she said. “It all depends on how it goes. If it is a repeat of what happened in 2008, that will be it for me. But if I can succeed to do what I have set out to do we will see.”

So let's get this straight... Stick with it for now because all of the other top players have moments of royal stinkage? LOL! I mean, sure. It's true, except perhaps for Jelena. I just think that's a hysterical world view on her part. Not exactly a champion's mentality.

I had high hopes for Amelie when she managed to muster 6-9 months of a champion's mentality (and yes, I recall how she backed into her Melbourne win thanks to a bunch of retirements, but I still say Amelie played some damn fine tennis those 2 weeks).... I had hoped she'd be able to rediscover and sustain it. Now I'm convinced that 2007 was basically a complete and accidental freak.

Some players manage to win GS without ever acquiring champion's mentality. It's very rare, but it does happen. Novotna was like that too.

Of recently active women, I can only think of five that have a real champions mentality--Justine, Venus, Serena (when she cares), Lindsay, and Sharapova. Of the men, there's only Roger and Rafa (but I think Murray will get there; still not complete sure about Nole). Before them, you have to go back to the likes of Sampras, Agassi, Courier, and the rest of that bunch. Lots of guys won a major, but mostly by accident.

Okay, that's longer than a lot of people expected her to carry on for, yet shorter than many would like her to stay. I hope she does really, really well.

You must have very high standards...

I think Hewitt at his prime, Guga (on clay) and even Roddick all had it. As for women, it still remains to be seen with some of the younger generation (Ana, Jelena, Dinara). Some are probably hopeless, though (I am talking about you, Sveta)

ahhh, come on, she meant that in a tactical way!!!!!!! You really think Roger, when he looks at his draw and sees Maximo Gonzalez or Marc Giquel or no top 3 guys until the semis, doesn't make pragmatic calculations??

for once Amélie isn't being emotional and everybody beats her down...

that being said, she should go the Jankovic way and play as many tournaments she can since she is back in top health. she has to get up the ranking ladder quickly for her draws to get better. No Zvonareva or Serena on 2rs.....
