Default Amelie plans to play one more year
http://www.lequipe.fr/Tennis/breves2...-tournois.html

She says her goal is to prove to herself she can win big tournaments.

Wish her all the best. Hope she can win RG (well of course I want it for Venus as well), so if it's both of them, no to Amelie.

Could you imagine if she won RG? I hope she just manages to win a title. Even a Tier 3.

Better one than zero. I hope her last year is a good one.

I don't think she can win any big tournaments (I'd be surprised at a Tier II). I hope she can make a deep run, though. I'll root for her to make the QF of a slam.

I'd love to see her win Paris again, and it would be really nice if she could get back to the QF of Roland Garros (that's her best finish there, correct?). Maybe she'll finally go in there feeling no pressure.

I've been hearing that bit about "no pressure" for 5 years.

I wonder if she's found a replacement for Courteau.

I saw Amelie play live three times in 2008. Twice at IW, where she stunk out loud (and I was the only person in the stadium pulling for Bondarenko), and once at Eastbourne, where she looked phenomenal beating Cornet, only to pull out of her next match with an injury. I firmly believe that had she not gotten hurt, the Eastbourne title was hers. Coulda made a huge difference in her year.

Didn't we see her lose to Alona twice?

We did! Kuznetsova hit a ball way out during that match that I tracked down and still have, one of my favorite IW souvenirs.

And that was the match with the Bondarenko hair. Followed by the Bondarenko photo palooza.

You clearly missed the news of her going the way of irony with Hugo Lecoq (guess his previous pupil)

I read that Courteau would be coaching Golovin (when it looked like she would be back), so she'd be my only ironic guess.

Amelie discussing her decision (in English):

“I was not that far from packing it all in because I was so far away from getting back to the level that I wanted to play at,” Mauresmo told L’Equipe sports daily. “But I am not the kind to take hasty decisions and so I though it over and decided to continue playing. “I want to prove to myself that I am strong enough to get back to my best form. I am not too much interested in where I am in the rankings but I want to be able to win tournaments again. “My last title was in Antwerp in 2007 and quite frankly I miss all that. I really want to once again be playing in big tournaments feeling that I can win them by beating the best players.”

Mauresmo, who reached the world No.1 spot in 2007 after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon, said that she was also encouraged by the instability at the top of women’s tennis since the retirement earlier this year of Justine Henin. “For the moment I am not looking past next year,” she said. “It all depends on how it goes. If it is a repeat of what happened in 2008, that will be it for me. But if I can succeed to do what I have set out to do we will see.”
