Even with the toe Drop-Shot?
I read somewhere that he dreamed every night for a week that he'd be traveling to Shanghai

Ugh, Rafa. What's the point without the #1? Abort!

Rafa played the Chennai final on no legs whatsoever even though everyone thought he'd give Mikhail Youzhny the walkover for the Final. Rafa doesn't withdraw unless he's got to. I know a lot of people don't believe this but it's true.

Don't forget this was an Olympic year so there was one extra event in the mix.
I'm not at all saying he's actually fit enough to play but he isn't, or that he's faking, or something like that. I fully sympathize with his injury and it's really a pity that the top player won't be in Shanghai. What I wanted to say was that I think it's a bit arrogant for Rafa to claim that he's doing sort of a heroic duty for the ATP by spending his body on so many matches. Others have played more matches in total and not complained (at least publicly) as much.

I think Rafa's referring more to what happened because of the Olympics with his clay court swing. That was like tennis boot camp for the guy trying to defend everything.

Who thinks he's a quitter, Ti? Wasn't that his first and only retirement this year?

Yes it was. He played through the blisters at Rome as well.
The Olympics is what changed everything for him. No Olympics, he's in Shanghai. JMHO.

I think that is your interpretation.

Who has played more matches than Rafa this year? Many have entered into more tournaments, but did not go as deep as Rafa has this year. Also, Rafa's injury is part of the why he pulled out. There is also the mental fatigue he is carrying.

In which case, I'd take the medal. Personally I think Masters and YEC are overrated. I said it.

Roger played 95 matches in 2003 and 97 in 2006 (93 for Rafa so far) and I don't remember him complaining all the time.

MC/YEC, while not a GS, is overrated only for those unable to win it.
