Thanks so much for the interesting info!

I was shocked that Davydenko had the second best % among active males.

Oh Sveta.

Davydenko's record isn't shocking to me. He had really good wins over Nadal and Safin in finals in recent years, but apart from those, he's played players he's just plain better than. He definitely has (or maybe had) the ability to win matches he's supposed to. His finals losses are to Federer, Nalbandian, Robredo and Roddick (on clay???).

I'm disgusted with Mardy Fish's record. I mean, the majority of those matches were not matches he could win, on paper, but some of them stand out as head-scratchers (I still occasionally pull my hair out when I think of the Massu match).

Chakvetadze is 7-1. Doesn't fit the 10 finals minimum, but she definitely belongs in the conversation.

And Zuzana is 17-8 in finals, which is 68%. Domination.

And the eight people who have beaten Zuz in a final are no slouches. The list includes Safina, Peng, Vinci, and Loit.

Also, did you know that Zuzana won a challenger event that was played as best-of-five first to four games sets?

Such a pioneering champion is our Zuz.

You mean your Zuz. The rest of us aren't delusional.

See where Jelena % in finals is just as dismal as Svetlana.

Sorta makes Smashnova's career finals record all the more glowing. 12-1. No player on this list, male or female, is even close.

Yes, it does. Meghann is the only one that can say that she defeated Anna at Forest Hills in 2006.

Wasn't that also Smashnova's last final?

Every single statistic involving Roger is amazingly muddled by Rafa. He is 10-4 in finals against Roger.

Yes, Beau. She was 12-0 going in to the final. It cost her retiring with a perfect record in tact.

Shows you that statistics are only one perspective on a topic. I doubt any player would trade Jelena's career for AnnaC's at this point, much less Smashnova's. Nor do I think any of them would trade Kuznetsova's for Davydenko's.

Really? Not for a Slam and a couple extra finals?

Gah! I wrote that completely backwards. Thanks for pointing that out, because I'd just undermined my own argument.

At the "end" of their careers, Henin won 71.9% of her finals (41-16) and Clijsters won 66.7% of hers (34-17). Pretty great stats compared to those still playing.

"end"?

When does the draw come out for the 2009 Proximus Diamond Games?

Outside of Slams, I think this is the most highly anticipated draw (for me) in some years, Beau.
