Default Seles' Autobio Coming April, 2009
COMING in April, Monica Seles' memoir "Getting a Grip: On My Body, My Mind, My Self." It's heavy on bingeing, depression, two years in seclusion, losing her dad/coach to cancer, and that deranged sicko who stabbed her during a match in Hamburg

If she tells everything, this would probably be a riveting read. My guess, which I truly hope I am wrong about, is that she glosses over a lot of stuff.

She has always been very private, therefore, I don't expect anything other than gloss-overs.

That's why I think it has the potential to be riveting, OFC. Who ever really got to know her. Here she was one of the greatest athletes of her day, and she was even more hidden then Steffi (at least I thought). I'm sure there are a lot of scars mixed in with the great successes.

I think it was a book about Monica some years back (though I could be mistaken) that described what all occurred when Steffi came to visit her following the stabbing. The story itself was heartbreaking - these two incredible athletes were totally incapable of talking to each other, because of the intense emotions surrounding the whole stabbing incident. Basically, if I recall all of the story correctly, Steffi came in with flowers, they exchanged brief pleasantries, they both teared up, and Steffi left without them being capable of talking about it.

Oh please, Seles will take every opportunity to crap all over Graf again. She'll whine about how all the other mean girls on the WTA took away her ranking, a ranking she believed she should have kept (along with all of the endorsement money that comes with it) without any sort of imminent return date to the tour. She probably believed all of the Grand Slams should have been postponed until she came back. She was an extraordinarily selfish athlete during most of her playing career and you won't read about that in her autobiography.

You should certainly not write the forward.

Ouch!

I always felt like there were two Monica's... One pre-stabbing (the one you describe), and one post-stabbing... The latter being nausiatingly gracious (saying things like her opponent was a great player, after beating the poor scrub 1 and 1), seemingly in attempt to right the perceived wrongs from earlier in her career.

I suspect it will focus on the three most crucial points in her life/career: 1) Her father's influence and his death; 2) The stabbing; and 3) Her career demise due to the foot. And yes, with a decent amount of stuff in between fairly well glossed over.

But I'm hoping, in futility, that it's far more Tauziatesque.

Two of the greatest women in the sport coming out of autobiographies and youŽd have to pay me big money to read either one.

Serena. It's a paszek thing. As long as she promises not to hurt me. I'm fragile. If she starts slapping me and screaming, "What's my name?!?!?!? Say my name, bitch!!!!", I may not be able to perform properly.

I'm no Dmitry Tursunov.

Like you have a choice. Check your PMs. I've already assigned you the Book Review for Serena's memoir.

And no, you can't delegate the assignment to Dr. HFPY.

I think Serena's will be particularly dull. As a child one is hardly aware of a family's hardship, so she can't even write about that knowingly.

IŽm sure sheŽll have the ghostwriter write about it nonetheless.

LOL. Oh, she'd so do that
There are few men who can handle Serena.
I'm not sure whether I'd handle the "what's my name?!?! Say my name, bitch!!!11" stuff either

Anywho, I'm totally excited about two of the sport's biggest stars coming out with autobiographies. Knowing myself, I'll probably read both in one sitting

Though, Krutin has a point about Serena...but I don't agree with him re: Monica

Tough crowd!

I think Monica's has the better potential, but I think Serena's will be the better read.

It sounds like Serena is going for a motivation girl-power direction to me. Hope I'm wrong.

Like you say, if Monica tells all, that's a must read.
