Default Davydenko Match Betting Probe
"Davydenko won the first set but during the course of winning it, his price drifted out not in. That doesn't strike us as a normal betting pattern.
"We have an understanding with the ATP that we can share information with them so that they can know exactly what bets were taking place and from who, so we'll be liaising with them.
"We have suspended payouts and we will consider what we can do in order to ensure fairness and transparency."
A spokesman for the tour told the Guardian newspaper: "The ATP takes issues surrounding gambling extremely seriously.
"We are committed to ensuring our sport remains corruption free and have strict rules in place governing this area. "It would be inappropriate for us to comment further on any individual match or on the status of any potential investigation until such time as the process has been completed."

This isn't the first time Davy has been associated with something like this...

I wasn't aware of this. Not good at all.

I think I may remember that. The article says some site refused to offer that match because of Sargsian? I don't remember him implicated in such a thing at another time.

I just checked that year though:

You're correct. It was Sargisian who ended up being the suspect in 2005.

I have to apologize. Since I don't bet sports - any sports, I don't always follow what is going on. I'm not ignoring the charts it's just that my attention wanders on these things.

No, that's not actually what I meant, I was just wondering why they cited Sargsian's "history" - I don't remember any other issues.

It also couldn't really be that Sargsian was the (only) suspect. He was not the one retiring up a set.

Wow. I'll be interested to see what (if anything) Davy has to say about this.

They were cleared in 2005, btw.

Irakli Labadze was fined earlier in 2005 for allegedly throwing a match on which his friend had a bet, though.

Like I said, not my field of expertise by any stretch of the imagination.

Do you really think Davy will speak out?

That thought did cross my mind but what benefit would he get in becoming an Austrian instead of a Russian?
This one is ugly and I wouldn't think Austrian citizenship afforded him any protection IF, and ONLY IF somehow another IP search traces a bet back to the players hotel.

Could this be why Tarpishev dropped him from the DC team as well?

Of course he is innocent until proven guilty but all these questions do arise...

Does he have Kafelnikov's phone number in speed dial?

The Yahoo! news (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns) posts that there were $7 million bet on this match. Lots of money for a second round match involving player out of the top 50 (Arguello). It claims "most of the money was on Arguello to win, even after Davydenko won the first set 6-2."

Weird.

Ah, how bad can it be? I'm sure there's a perfectly illegal explanation for all of this. Eh, I meant to say that this, at the very least reeks of match fixing. Ehm...

Dammit. Can't shake the feeling that someone's ****ed up here

The question is what does the ATP do about it? I mean $7mil against Davy in the first set when he was winning?

This doesn't stink it reeks. I bet ET wishes all he had to deal with right now was the "Scream for Help".

with everything going on right now in sports, expect quick action. Won't be surprised at all if they suspend him pending an investigation, rather than wait to conclude the investigation.

I was just thinking the same thing Moose. The last thing you want is the American press to get hold of this right on the heels of that NBA ref situation.

I wasn't paying that much attention back then but the Kafelnikov thing wasn't this blatant was it?
