Default Who will reach top 10 for the first time next year (WTA)?
Almost every year there is someone reaching the top 10 for the first time. This year we had Jankovic, Ivanovic, Chakvetadze and Bartoli. Who is going to accomplish it next year?

My pick - Agnes Szavay.

Some other viable candidates - Golovin, Peer, Azarenka, Radwanska, Safarova, Paszek, Bondarenko.

Hmm... if you mean year end, I'd go with Szavay. If you mean any random week, I'm tempted to go Golovin as she is currently 13th and didn't make it all that deep in any slam (including the FO, which she didn't even play).

Any time and of course there could be more than one such player. Golovin is very likely - she probably only needs a decent AO to do it.

I was on the Aggie Radwanska bandwagon 2 years ago, Suliso. Now, I don't think she's going to make it. While still young, I thought she was on the fast track, and while this wasn't a bad season, it wasn't what I thought she was capable of.

The race is on between Tatiana and Agnes. Tatiana has a lot of points to defend early in the season. I think she'll get there before Agnes, but I think Agnes will pass her before Roland Garros, and finish the year higher ranked.

Yeah, looking at their records, Szavay has barely anything to defend for the first half of the year. It's all challenger and qualifying stuff.

The thing that worries me about Szavay is her health. So many serious injuries already. Golovin too, but with her, while I'm certain she'll reach top 10, I'm almost certain she won't stay there, although she is not defending much of anything at slams, so who knows.

I've never been on that particular bandwagon.... I like Paszek's chances, but next year is probably too early. Top 20 would be a more realistic goal for her.

So have we changed our opinion? Any new candidates?

I said Szavay, but at this point Radwanska looks more likely...

Out of your viable candidates, the most likely to me is Bondarenko. Radwanska can do it if she plays a lot of soft draw tournaments, but I'm not into her against a hard hitter.

I think we can pretty much cross Safarova off. Unless she has a Bartoli-like run, but she's running out of chances.

"Up-and-comer" rankings at the moment

14 Golovin
16 Radwanska
18 Szavay
19 Peer
23 Bonadrenko, A
27 Azarenka
29 Na Li
35 Knapp
36 Vakulenko
38 Cibulkova
39 Safarova
42 Paszek
43 Wozniacki

Golovin's about to defend a tournament win, so that'll set her back a little. Radwanska could do it with good results through Wimbledon. At the moment, I'm inclined to tip off Na Li as having a better chance than a lot of the young players ranked above her. She's been kicking some serious ass this year.

My odds
1. Radwanska
2. Golovin
3. Na Li
4. Szavay

Li is 26. Hard to tag her as an up and comer.

Think Tati will eventually get there - if she can find a way to stay healthy for more than a few weeks at a time.

I'm about ready to give up on Shahar as a top 10. Even though I like her, and her game, she just can't seem to string together any consistency.

Azarenka will get there. Szavay has become a huge enigma. I'm just not going to comment on her any longer for a while.

After seeing Paszek, I think she has the potential to be there. Same thing with Wozniacki.

Based on results this year..Wozinacki and Radwanska both looking like good bets - not that I've seen either play though!
