I thought it was Mardy who asked Ullrich to say something, because he was serving at the time. But, I could be wrong. James, though, did give them some nasty looks and motions, as if to say stop already.

I've heard that before. I forget who else couldn't stand them. Was it last year's USO? Or someone who attended New Haven last year?

I thought Ullrich was terrific. Something about their enthusiasm being awesome, but please respect the players.
Ti-Amie was calling out the J-Block back in 2005 when she blogged for TOB. And this is when the media and commentators were loving them. They seemed fine to me until I read her recaps.

It was unfortunate that in the end they seemed to hurt James tonight. I think Craig pointed out in the OoP thread that James was just as upset with them. I think he was embarrassed by their behavior.

In James' post-match interview, he really defends them pretty adamantly. I don't know why. I know James is really very reluctant to say negative things about people but the extent to which he defends them is almost kinda silly. They were acting inappropriately and he should talk to them about it. Really.

HATE the J-Block. It represents a lot of things that annoy me about American Jockhood. "YEEAHHHHH! USA! SPORTS! THE OTHER GUY SUCKS! WOOOO! BEER!"

Maybe that's what they represent to you but I wouldn't take it that far. To me, they represent a group of guys with good intentions who really don't understand that that doesn't excuse them from the rules and are totally cavalier about it....I guess that's also kind of an American attitude.

I actually agree with your whole post, except of course for the bold part. I am ALL about taking it too far.
