If the rankings were still done like the early 90s Jankovic would schedule differently, plain and simple.
Obviously and they also had quality points, but under such a ranking system it is not possible (or much harder at least) to be ranked that high without winning anything of any importance. Right now Rome is Jelena's only title...

True but she has a bunch of big semis. I guess it doesn't really bother me if a player doesn't have that many titles.

that's what I thought... and I actually checked again this morning on the sonyericsson wta homepage and they write that she blew her chances of becoming number one by losing to Cibulkova.

I believe the scenario is that she won't become number one next monday, but she will the week after when last year's LA points come off (Ivanovic won).
