tell me this is a joke, please. How can two people be the best male player?
LOL! Remember, ESPN picked a horse as the number 35 best athlete of the 20th century, so why not lump two people together?

Good point and I remember some sports writers complaining about it. But heck it was Secretariat.

Championship performance will go to Tiger, sans doute. He'll get like 97% of the vote.

Largely because there's a huge degree of recentism in sports reverence.
I'm thinking even without recentism he still gets 90%+ of the vote anyways. Unless the World Series was in the last week - then he might've dropped into the 80's.

Well, Secretariat WAS the the best Thoroughbred ever. I think having a horse on the list was permissible, given his contribution to the sport.

But when Eating Contest winners start making the list, I may have to draw the line.

Obviously, Justine deserves the 2007 tennis female player of the year.

I think that Venus AND Serena, as the only other Slam winners, deserve to be nominees for 2007 over The Pretty Ones.

It is NOT.

Alternate post: WELL, that would still dump out one of The Pretty Ones, no?......Since Squeaks won Roland Garros in June....

SO, apparently I don't know much about the hallowed ESPYs.....How does this all work exactly? What, they pick folks from the middle of one year to the middle of the next year?!?! SHHHHEEEESH.

Of course, perhaps nelslus should just keep it simple and pull an Emily Litella here......

OK, then I meant it's through June. Whatever, it's through Nadal's FO 2008 run, so obviously, it includes Ana's too.

They just took the top 3 players in the 52 weeks prior, so...

They announce the noms July 1

I see that you just MAKE UP THE RULES as you see fit, eh? I mean, Nadal COULD have gotten in based on the 2007 French Open.....

AH, well, I shall now wait with baited breath until the ESPY ceremonies....

(Mind you, the way some of these silly shows are, I wouldn't have been shocked for them just to be nominated for being "Pretty" or "Popular." They've had some bogus nominees before.....)

Consider re-reading the list of Venus' competitors
