American Al Qaeda terrorist Adam Gadahn arrested, Pakistan claims

From news article:
Pakistani officials say they've nabbed Adam Gadahn, the treasonous Californian Al Qaeda leader who has long been on Washington's Most Wanted list.

It would be a huge victory in the battle against the terror network, but high level US officials in Washington could not immediately confirm the report.

Significantly, President Obama did not take the opportunity to mention any developments in Pakistan when he made a statement to reporters about the election in Iraq Sunday afternoon.

"We are checking with Pakistani authorities to confirm one way or the other," said FBI spokesman William Carter.

A Pakistani official told Agence France Presses that "we thought it could have been a big catch, but it appeared it's not Gadahn."

The confusing swirl of reports began in Karachi, where the Associated Press and several Pakistani and Indian outlets quoted Pakistani officials announcing the arrest of Osama bin Laden's American mouthpiece.

The Dawn, Karachi's English-language paper, ran a photo of a man said to be Gadahn being taken away with a bag on his head.

Gadahn, 31, is the first American to be charged with treason since World War II. If convicted, he would face the death penalty.

"Adam Gadahn is an American citizen who made a choice - he chose to join our enemy and to provide it with aid and comfort by acting as a propagandist for al-Qaeda," then-Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty said when Gadahn was charged with treason in 2006.

"Betrayal of our country will bring severe consequences."

Geo News in Pakistan reported that Gadahn was arrested in a raid on a house at Super Highway in Karachi. He and an associate "were later shifted to some undisclosed location for further interrogation," Geo News said.

CNN reported that Gadahn had been on the outs with top Al Qaeda leaders in the last month.

Stories about Gadahn's arrest came just hours after he appeared in a new internet video urging American Muslims to go on shooting sprees like Maj. Nidal Hasan's at Fort Hood last year.

In the video he called the murderous major "a trailblazer and a role-model who has opened a door, lit a path and shown the way forward for every Muslim who finds himself among the unbelievers.

Gadahn's arrest was the latest in a series of successes in the new partnership between Pakistan's once-balky intelligence services and the CIA.

Known in Al Qaeda videos as "Azzam the American" or Azzam al-Amereeki, Gadahn was born in Oregon to a Jewish family.

I'm sure Code Pink and the rest of their far-left loony cohorts will be out their protesting against the "persecution" of this sack of dong, as he was only giving aid to "freedom fighters". They will be giving their usual "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter...." mumbo jumbo.
