Andak,
The fact that it originally is (and I've yet to check) "pre-Islamic" does not mitigate the fact it is propagated by major sec(s) of Islam today. Witness the high uptake in Nigeria, Indonesia, Saudi Entity, Pakistan and even Bosnia these days. Note these are all *different* cultures so the "pre-Islamic" moniker is truly nonsensical since it is highly dubious (read: b*ll) to have all these widely different cultures have the same dress and abuse of the female. The fact that some Arab at some point abused women like these does not by any measure detract from the means this practice is propagated today. |

Christianity has propogated the Christmas Tree- even though the practice is antecedent to it's founding and is indeed fixed in Germanic paganism. So what? If there were no Protestants and no Christians generally, there would be no Christmas tree today in the New World. The tree is innocuous enough, the Burqa is not. And Muslims, that is to say the Ummah, has propagated it to the four corners of the world. Whether it existed in caravan raiding, woman beating, Arabia before the founding of Mohammad and is not in the Sunna is again besides the point. How did it get to Nigeria? How did it get to Indonesia? Riddle us this batman.
Flip side: what have the Imams done to remove it? To ban it? Why is there more of it today than ever before? Muslims in those countries (however Turkey, Azerbaijan, Albania and the central Asian Turkic countries have been good about keeping it out so far...) do little to mitigate it since that is seen as being anti-Islamic. In effect it is anti-Selafi but few would frame the problem like that since much of the money and cultural influence comes from that one decrepit place. Even the Ayatolahs are more modern/moderate compared to this insanity. And thats saying something. Rape is independent from this ubiquitous misogyny IMO. It's another fundamental(ist) level that enables it, but is not it per say. I have common issues with [far milder compared to Burqa/wahabi] ultra-orthodox women being under the heel of hypocrite woman hating ultra orthodox men. Even those guys dont make the woman wear a f* burlap black tent though. |
