No, moderate Muslims aren't innocent bistanders. They are the decimated Fur tribe in Sudan, the informants who get parts of their bodies mailed to family members, the women raped by the Taliban and the Northern alliance, the moderate scholars who write books and make lectures only to be shouted down and silenced by the likes of horselady, the translators working for interpol and the FBI, the ones serving in the American military and working for the Department of Defense, the ones serving in our police departments and the police departments in Iraq. They are, in short dying everyday not only without credit, but with people lying and saying that they don't exist or that they can't be trusted, or that they don't do anything. They heal people and build buildings and bridges. They act, they sing, they write books. For all that, they are repeatedly demeaned and dehumanized by bigots.

The idea that there are no moderate Muslims reminds me of that scene (I think it was in Apocalypse Now) where a door-gunner on a helicopter was shooting every Vietnamese he could see.
A soldier asked him how he could tell the Viet Cong apart from the innocent civilians. He replied, "If they run, they're V.C.; if they don't run, they're well disciplined V.C." Just a reminder: "We will not provide a platform for hatefulness and racism against ANY religion or group, and posts that fall into this negative category will be deemed in violation of the Rules of the Road of this forum." http://www.israelforum.com/board/sho...46&postcount=1 |

I'd like to know how a Jew can attack informants, soldiers, translators and others who are assisting in the war on terrorism simply because they are Muslims. How is that helping in the war on terrorism? |

Let them keep their problems in their countries. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2006/...ror--plot.html Shaikh said he consulted the Qur'an and senior Muslim religious leaders before going undercover and becoming an informer. "God says in the Qur'an that we must value one life," he said, "I was guided, I had my licence." Shaikh has declined formal protection as a court witness after consulting a lawyer, saying he was working for the safety of Canadians and Muslims, not for the police. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...052801401.html Washington Post Staff Writer Tuesday, May 29, 2007; Page C01 With tired eyes and mussed hair, Osama Eldawoody opens his door to an unexpected guest. He doesn't get many visitors these days. He is in hiding for his own safety. He has received no direct threats, he says, but has heard through friends of friends that there are those who want to kill him. Nobody likes a snitch. The 51-year-old Egyptian immigrant chain-smokes Marlboros in a corner of the comfortable apartment that he now calls home, far away from his previous life in New York, in a location he wants to keep secret. This place is his hideaway but also his trap. Here, he grants his first interview since moving cross-country. For 13 months, he was a paid informer for the New York Police Department. His work in 2003 and 2004 helped convict Shahawar Matin Siraj, a Pakistani immigrant, of conspiracy to bomb Manhattan's 34th Street subway station. Siraj, 24, was sentenced in January to 30 years in prison, but for Eldawoody the case, now under appeal, still feels raw. http://www.talkleft.com/story/2003/04/06/284/74283 In response to the Sept. 11 attacks, the F.B.I. and other counterterrorism authorities have pursued a campaign to recruit Muslims like Mr. Konaté as informers. As part of this effort in New York, the agency recently created a "citizen academy," where more than two dozen Muslim clerics and business leaders completed a course of eight evening sessions in January. Although they are not considered full-fledged informers, they have helped the F.B.I. chase down terrorist suspects by posting their pictures in mosques. |

"I was shocked," said lawmaker Nilofar Bakhtiar, [a MUSLIM] who pushed for legislation calling for perpetrators of so-called honor killings to be punished when she served as minister of women's affairs under the last government. The women, three of whom were teenagers, were first shot and then thrown into a ditch. They were still breathing as their bodies were covered with rocks and mud, according media reports and human rights activists, who said their only "crime" was that they wished to marry men of their own choosing Just barbaric. |
