Al Arabiya News Channel are saying majority onboard were US Special Forces. Can't find any other sources to confirm this. Well I said this here few years ago when some ex US soldiers here were making fun of the Taliban's capabilities. These guys have experience and motivation. All they know is war nothing else. Their fathers fought the soviets and are their commanders now. They are pretty serious about fighting illegal occupation. Also I remember when I said there will come a day when the US will sit and negotiate with the Taliban. At the time Bush's administration was sayin we don't negotiate with terrorists. Well they kinda had to recently, since they cudnt out muscle the Taliban. Finally, I love asking this question over and over. What is America's current objective in Afghanistan? More news to follow. Seems like an RPG dropped the chinook. WS. |

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/07/wo...ghanistan.html The objective in Afghanistan is to fight the Taliban until the Afghan forces are strong enough to deal with their own problems. |

The U.S. should fight by the Taliban's own rules, no rules, bomb them into the stone age then do it again. Didn't work to well back then aswell... This is what war is. If people are surprised about 30+ cassulties a day they just ignored the dozens of people who died every week / month for the past years. |

They are but they don't have the support of the Afghan people. If they did they would run in the elections and win. The only way they get support is through intimidation. Most Afghans don't want them back in power any more than we do. Are you actually equating forced changes of government by overwhelming foreign military force to democratic ideals? |

Were they allowed to participate in the elections or were they killed and banned like Hussein/the Baathists in US-occupied Iraq? Taliban rule was forced on the Afghan people. Their present constitution and form of government was not. |

Why ask me who is allowed to participate in Afghan elections? Google it. Anyway, here is what I googled: List of political parties in Afghanistan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Taliban is one of the current banned parties according to that. On the government page: Licensed Political Parties - Ministry of Justice I see no mention of the Taliban. It's hardly surprising given what the US did in Iraq. Go in, kill the ruler, force new government, ban former ruler's party. Same shit, different country. Taliban rule was forced on the Afghan people. Their present constitution and form of government was not. |
