False dichotomy. Many of those who doubt that bin Laden was killed a few days ago think that he has been dead for a long time.
LOL, "false dichotomy" (I don't think this means what you think it means).

Anyway, my statement still stands. Just replace "The amount of people who don't think Osama is dead..." with "The amount of people who think Osama was killed a long time ago..." and carry on.

You portrayed the controversy as being between those who believe the official story and those who don't believe the official story and instead think that bin Laden is still alive. There is a third group: those who don't believe the official story and instead think that bin Laden died a long time ago.

And there are people who believe that Osama is employed by the CIA and working with the US government and there are people who believe Osama never existed in the first place, the list goes on. Because I didn't exhaustively list every possible category doesn't make it a false dichotomy. It would be a false dichotomy if I presented the two types of people as if they were the only two types of people, such as, "People either believe the US government killed Osama last Sunday or they believe Osama is still alive and hiding from the US government". I clearly did not do this, so your accusation of a false dichotomy is pretty odd.

Even if I unintentionally offered a false dichotomy (which there wasn't one), my point does not hinge on there only being two categories of people, so it doesn't make any sort of difference either way. Throw four or five more categories of people in there, and my point remains the same. Which further makes your accusations of a false dichotomy seem pretty odd.

I don't see that doing so will accomplish anything positive.

I do wish the Obama Administration would have waited to have had its story straight before going public but I imagine it will do little to quell conspiracy theorists while potentially riling up would-be terrorists.

Release it.

Didn't they learn anything from the birth certificate fiasco? Its not the data that creates the conspiracy theories, its the cover up.

But they are wringing their hands now that they've done everything they accused Bush of doing.

Releasing photos, video, tissue samples of the corpse will not accomplish anything useful.

The Birthers are not convinced, the Flat Earthers are not convinced, the deniers of Climate Change caused by human intervention are not convinced.

The fanatic jihadists, with some religious support, have centuries of practice of not being convinced by any "outside" influences.

This morbid fascination with bin Laden's death is just that - morbid fascination. Nothing good would come of satisfying this unnatural lust.

Releasing the news of Osama's death with inaccurate details is a result of the "fog of war". I don't know if any of you have ever read the battlefield reports from different participants, but they all differ in some ways. Nothing is to be gained in lying, just a careful review of all the reports and tapes revealed discrepancies which will be sorted out and corrected. Given the current state of GOP relations, the already fingerpointing and history remaking going on, I don't see an upside for the administration to release these tapes and pics at this time, ethically or politically. There is also the point that proprietary info could be gleaned from our enemies as to our tactics and equipment.

Although I would love to see the pictures. We all should take into account, the release of those pictures could cause a very adverse effects to innocent people, our soldiers, and whoever else. (obviously I'm speculating) Since we only know what we get to see and hear on the news we must consider the unknown variables that our military and cia know.

Sure they learned something. They learned that they'll release plenty of photo evidence to prove without a doubt that Osama was the one killed, but then people will start demanding that they release hair samples, fingernail clippings, clothing, dental records, and Osama's long form death certificate. And despite already having plenty of photo evidence to prove their claim and legally prove in a court of law that Osama is deceased, people will start saying that the photos prove nothing and that anybody could fake photos like that and that this won't rest until they get Osama's blood samples, autopsy report, bone marrow and finger prints. Then one day they'll get tired at how retarded people are and finally release what these people demand and then Donald Trump will take credit for it.

Mentally ill? Not usually. With their head up their . . .let me rephrase that . . .up Limbaugh, Coulter, O'Reilly, and Palin's A . .?

Absolutely!

Yes, I do believe Ben Laden is dead. Is it solely because I respect President Obama? No.

Would I have believed it if Bush had provided the same evidences during his presidency? Yes.

Did I believe Bush when he talked about WMD's in Iraq? NO, mainly because BUSH and CHENEY were the ONLY people who spread that rumor, and it went against all other information from UN, etc. . . AND, if Saddam Hussein had WMD, he would have used it rather than letting our troops invade Iraq.

But let me reverse the question. Why don't you believe it? Because You don't like Obama? Because "he is a Muslim?" Because "he is Black," Because "he wasn't born in Hawaii?"
You, dear, are texbook kool aid guzzzlin certifiable liberal, aren't you. Do you hold any opinions that haven't beeen spoon fed to you? I'd wager you had some anti Bush bumper sticker on your ride, did I win? Was it BUSH: Not my president or Bush lied, people died ?

Well, according to reports that I've heard, UBL got shot in the chest and in the face just above the left eye so there is likely to be alot of his head missing.

Perhaps the bionic man, Dick Cheney (AKA Darth Vader), is now on SEAL team six????

My vote is don't officially relaease it yet. Wait for it to be leaked.

I did kind of expect something on the internet- TRUMP "I'm the one who found Bin Laden" After my investigators left Hawaii, they went on to Pakistan and discovered a private compound outside of Islamabad...etc.

What I'd appreciate from the President is the release of one autopsy head shot, in black and white, showing only the uninjured parts of Osama's face, death shot details whited out. That would allow everyone with doubts to decide if it's really him and if he's really dead. Obviously, those in al Quaida who were in contact with BL already know if he's still around or not.

The problem is, a shot to the head can still massively deform the face well beyond where the bullet actually hit. Even if he was hit above the eye, the only still recognizable part of his face may be just his newly red beard.

Based upon the birther, truther, Elvis, and Jim Morrison stories floating around with sizable followings, nothing will convince everyone obl is dead. I doubt that obl's head on a pole in the front yard of the White House would do it; a few photos won't even make a blip on the radar.

A lot of talk about this was interested in how the board felt about it

Release the photo of Osama dead or not?
Well--what the hay--I already received a picture of a dead Bin Laden--via e-mail. YES--this picture is gruesome and hard to look at--but it's definitely him. I got it through forwarded e-mail.

Leon Penetta--stated yesterday that the release of this picture was "imminent"--I would suppose because he realises how important it is for Middle Easterners to see a dead Bin Laden. They already believe him to be dead--so not releasing these pictures--only puts a conspiracy theory in their minds that he may still be alive--not good.

The only people who won't believe Bin Laden is dead--will be the most dangerous of people--islamic extremists.

Middle Eastern leaders have requested that these photos are released just so that it stops the trouble-makers in their countries--from imortalizing him.

This is a BIG mistake on Obama's part.
