Excellent question and last remark!

Before you guys poo poo me, yes I served in the US military.

The problem I find with this site and most of you saying let's go to war, let's nuke that country, they are bad people...those of you at the age where you can enlist WON"T and those of you who could have enlist DIDN"T!
Well, some of us have and did.

I served honorably. I did my time, serving in the Marines (infantry rifleman) from 1983-1993. I had a service connected disability, and was discharged during the large RIF at the beginning of the Clinton administration.

Then fast-forward 14 years. There I was in 2007, at the age of 42, raising my hand to return into the military. Now it is almost 3 years later, and I have re-enlisted again. And yes, I have lost friends in this conflict, both before and during this enlistment. And yes, I have deployed.

I can fully agree with your anger at those that complain and do nothing. As a man much wiser then I said, "A man who won't die for something is not fit to live." But I am also aware that those civilians are the ones that I am sworn to protect "against all enemies, foreign and domestic".

And one thing I have come to recognize, is that most civilians don't give a rat's arse for what we do. They complain that we are overpaid, that we are lazy, even that we are all psychotic killers and rapists. Then that we are cretins, illiterate, uneducated, and can barely form complete sentences. And of course the old stand-by, that we only do this because we are unable to work in the "real world".

Well, this Soldier scores well above average in IQ tests, reads an average of 5-8 books a week (currently I am rereading Xenocide by Orson Scott Card), and walked away from a well-paying job as a computer technician to re-enter the service. And while my wife of almost 25 years thinks I am going through "middle age crazy", I have not been this happy in over a decade.

Default How many soldiers died this month?
Does anybody give a shit? Remember when the media laid out the reality of war during Vietnam and we all got intimate with the price our kids paid every day? See anything like that on the news since our first action in Iraq? Nothing. Zip. It's like it isn't even happening. Has any President come on TV and explained why our kids are dying every week over there? Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama - all the same! Does anybody expect that, at least once a year, the President would address the nation and explain why mothers keep losing sons and daughters keep losing fathers?

Does anybody give a shit?????

I see news reports on casualties in the news on a pretty rugular basis. It's out there if people care enough to stay informed.

You know, it's a no-win situation for him. If he talks about it, he's "exploiting the deaths of the soldiers." If he doesn't talk about it then "he doesn't give a shit."

This seems like a good place to get informed. Didn't look too closely, so if it's all bunk I apologize.

I suspect it's not as many as military-age kids are killed in the U.S. No one seems to care about that except the poor bastards that live in the combat zone.

It's there, but it's in the current equivalent media location that page 23 of the newspaper used to be.
Because no one cares enough for the media to hype it, if they cared the media would be all over it, the media brings people the news people want.
So compared to Tiger and Sandra Bullock, the Iraq war is sooooo yesterday.
Vietnam was a different story, because there was a draft, people you knew were involved, if you were of draft age it could be you, you might even need your daddy to get you into the national guard to avoid the unpleasantness, or get a doctor to write you a note.
But with this all-volunteer military, it's all self selected, and so removed from most peoples world as to be of no interest at all.

I don't care what he talks about. He has the power to quit sending them to their deaths. Or have they changed the rules on that whole "commander-in-chief" thing?

3 in April and 7 in March. They have scaled down their patrols as there had been deals made with nationalist insurgents towards end of 2007. At the moment the lack of sensation is of no interest to the mainstream media, and very sadly, leftist organizations as well, because they think this war is about US soldiers more than a people occupied.

Not that much to do with Obama tbh, they have had whitehouse press briefings about Iraq regularly for the past 7 years, and it's been fairly quiet ever since Bush's late term.

Because they signed up for it. The better question would be why are we still paying for that bullshit?

I haven't been there, therefore I can only answer; "yes, I care and want them home safely".

The rest of your comments need to be directed to the proper individuals however. Ask the media as to why they suddenly stop all the war hyperboil since Obama came into charge. Ask the soldiers as to why they think their lives are worth risking fighting over there (they reenlisted over and over).
