Default 13 rebel fighters were killed and dozens wounded in an UN/US airstrike...
The leadership sucks, Ghadaphi will stay in power,

How can they NOT know the Armed Rebels do not have tanks?? Seriously???

--------------

Libyan rebels turned their fury on Nato yesterday after at least 13 fighters were killed and dozens wounded in an airstrike.

Rebel commanders said tanks and military hardware captured from Colonel Gaddafi’s forces had been attacked in daylight with missiles despite being marked on the top in yellow as requested by Nato.

Four missiles hit the 30-vehicle convoy, which included a bus packed with fighters, on the outskirts of the eastern oil port of Brega, according to one rebel commander.

Nato said last night it was investigating the claims that, if confirmed, would be the third time rebels or civilians have been killed after being mistaken for pro-Gaddafi forces.
The claims came as it was revealed another one-time senior Gaddafi official had defected.

Following foreign minister Musa Kusa’s arrival in the UK last week, Omar Fathi bin Shatwan, a former energy minister, sought sanctuary in Malta. He said several other key figures also wanted to defect.

It was unclear last night whose planes were involved in the mistaken strikes but both the RAF and the French have been carrying out attacks in the region.

It's a bit early to be predicting the end of the war.

NATO is really the more significant factor here. NATO handled the Bosnian War quite well.

Not leadership here. It is the nature of armed combat. While in Nam, I was damned killed killed by friendly fire. Not once but 3 times! Others with me were not so damned lucky.

Knew a corpsman who thought just because he was wearing the red cross on white that he would be safe. They were always the first ones killed by the NVA. War isn't nice. Shit happens. If you don't understand it, stay the hell at home, safe on your couch.

To the thread title: Were U.S. jets involved in this? I thought the U.S. had gotten out of the actual missions.

Is that directed to me?

Your thread title refers to this as a U.S. airstrike. Membership in NATO alone does not support that characterization. Did the U.S. do the shooting or not?

Poor communication, poor training, lack of coordination and poor leadership. Then you have to consider the weaknesses of the rebel forces .

Since the majority of the aircraft working over Libya are now French and British, I'd think it would be a pretty small chance that a US plane/pilot was responsible for this.

ahoy CSA,

imma let a fightin' swabby make me response, aye?

So, for all you nay-sayers who think you know what you are talking about, I would ask you to throw on a pair of boots and a vest, go over there, and see what the real story is. At the very least, ask someone who was involved. But please, for the love of God, quit making assumptions and talking out of your asses about our guys using excessive force, or force when it isn't necessary, just because you don't like Bush. It really raises the blood pressure, know what I'm saying? - USPO poster, SomeMarine http://www.uspoliticsonline.com/war-...l-opens-2.html

just replace the word "Bush" with "Obama" and ye have yer answer right there, me bucko.

Yeah ... A real shame if we're being falsely maligned on this one; God knows we've got enough problems that we're actually involved in.

AFAIK US aircraft are no longer performing any direct combat missions in Libya, or at least that is the official line from the Pentagon in recent breifings, so I doubt if it was a US plane that bombed them. However, US aircraft may have played a support role. (refuling, targeting info, etc)

It's a shame you choose a poster who hasn't been active in 2 years; I'd like to hear what he thinks about Obama's war.

(Come to think of it, I hope you're OK, SomeMarine)

Where were you during the Bush years??? Oh yeah, here, making well thought out posts on the issues;

I thought of that after I made the poll, I should have left out the word still. But then I realized there actually was a short time when EVERYONE supported W. The first days after 9/11 before we knew he was starting to plan the Iraq invasion, we all actually did support the fucker So think of it that way. For about a minute I guess I supported him, once.
We did?

I've always known he was a tool. His behavior after 9/11 didn't change that in the least. U.S. Politics Online: A Political Discussion Forum Archives - View Single Post - Does anyone still support George W Bush?

Mmm. Digging through the archives are we?

Am I allowed to return the favor, or are you going to post thinly veiled threats as you did with MHP not too long ago?

I don't care what you do; I'm not the one whining about how the poor president is being so badly treated.

That's funny, 'cause I wasn't either. But, with the MASSIVE chip that you carry on your shoulder, I'll just leave it at that.

Good day. We'll see you in a few weeks when you decide to stir something up again.
