So how long do YOU think it takes to recover from the worst financial crisis in a few decades? An hour? Two? Ok, three tops right?

Some of the housing mess predates Bush to the Clinton era. Some of the deregulation stuff predates Clinton and Bush I to Ronnie.

It's a tangled web, and the past few Administrations have all had a hand in it. It defies logic as well as common sense to blame any 1.

IMO, Obama's real record won't be evident until after his presidency. Economic policies take time to make their mark. It's kind of like turning the titanic.

And the next president will be cleaning up Bush's big mess. It's just bigger than one president.

I don't think the president creates the economy.

Wow
Looks like we actually agree on something. Good post.

The one thing I would say though is that the current economic crisis was most directly related to banking deregulation, which was a conservative economic policy. Clinton got in bed with it however and thus is partly to blame-but the policy itself was a conservative policy.

For all you know, I could be a closet Obama supporter

Hold their feet to the fire, that's my philosophy!

I'll go you one better though:

Why do people insist on assigning economic blame to presidential administrations (Particularly the current one- as in, why doesn't the Prez do something! He's TURRBLE!) and simultaneously scream about the Free Market and Socialism whenever an administration does make any move to intervene?

I've never understood that.

But there is plenty of bi-partisan blame for the current economic crisis, not least of which was the unwillingness of federal financial regulatory bodies under multiple admins to do ANYthing that got in the way of Wall Street. How is it not fraud to give triple A ratings to toxic securities that were widely understood to be toxic? How can that be? How? How are people not rotting in jail? How is Moody's still even in business?

Wow.
Competely agree again.

I would add though that a democratic administration is far more likely to "get in the way" of Wall Street then a Republican one-exhibit A being Obama's attempt to regulate Wall Street early last year-hindered and obstructed by the GOP-the passage of which resulted in Wall Street taking a hissy fit and pumping all their money into GOP coffers, greatly helping the GOP retake the House.

Or, in this case, raising it.
