Man...

That would be like the Dean of a Design School handing out a no-bid contract to one of her prized pupils.

Right?

I'm obviously biased but it does seem like a non-story. No one seems to be alleging that anyone is unqualified for the position they hold. I don't really recall donors being given jobs as a big issue in the Bush Administration.. I seem to recall that there were much bigger issues with the non-donors that were given jobs (Rumsfeld, Gonzales, etc), but I welcome anyone to correct me on that.

Nice use of percentages at the end of the article.. Obama has 36% of ambassadorships as "political" vs. 30%, 28%, 30% for previous presidents. The article omits the fact that there are 206 ambassadorships, so we're talking about a difference of ~12-16 people. Let's be real, does anyone care if the ambassador to Kiribati or Tuvalu is a political appointee or a career foreign service officer?

Who cares about the ambassadors. At least Obama is putting qualified technocrats in charge of FEMA, FDA, DOE, etc.

Now that you mention FEMA, that does remind me that there was one donor appointment that was a big issue.. I don't think Michael Brown was actually a donor (2000 records aren't available to search), but he was hired by a donor.

Any nitwit knows that top fundraisers always get plum appointments. What rock are you living under?

I am not surprised either. It happens all the time. Many of his voters who believed the hype and load of crap that he ran on about changing politics, changing Washington, changing the way DC operates should be pi$$ed though.

I stand corrected as Libya is another undeclared US action. We're not at war there
despite launching carrier air strikes and cruise missles.

To hell with the Congo they don't have anything we want except some tree-hugger
freaks have concern for the rainforest. In 50 years the human race is screwed.

Agree with Stock also.

No. I'm a realist. The President has a lot of flexibility on appointees. We aren't talking an overhaul of SS, Medicare, debt etc... in one fell swoop. But setting and example by putting great, smart thinking people in positions that can change the direction of the country. Yeah, I expected that of Obama. The other stuff will take time and is much harder.

The "plum" jobs listed in the article are all ambassadorships.

Fair enough-but giving ambassadorships to big donors is SOO low on the list of things to be pissed off about if you fall into that category.

Depends on what you heard when he said "change". Obama already delivered on the change I expected from him.

Hi. Healthcare reform.

That's a pretty big deal to a big group of people in the long run.
