From news article:
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter misrepresented a key Middle East issue yet again, this time in a CNN appearance. He has done this often in the past regarding Israel (examples – here and here). This time the ex-President erroneously blamed Israel for the flight of Palestinian Arab Christians from “Palestine.” Carter told CNN interviewer Piers Morgan on Jan. 18. 2012: When I first went to Israel, about 15 percent of the Palestinians were Christians and they were my friends and they were my soul mates in the worship of the same god in the same way. Now they've almost been removed from Palestine because of some pressures and encouragement from the Israelis.Carter, unchallenged by Morgan, offers no substantiation for this allegation. But in blaming Israel for the flight of Palestinian Arab Christians, he is wrong again about Israel and the Middle East. A Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA) report, Christians Flee Growing Islamic Fundamentalism in the Holy Land, documents the central cause of the flight. Muslim intimidation of Christian Arabs includes assaults by Muslim men upon Christian women, demands for “protection” money and illegitimate land seizures. Carter’s false claim is also contradicted by the facts about Israel's growing Christian population (in absolute numbers). Morgan could have shed light on Carter's persistent Israel-bashing by asking him about his connections to Arab oil money. But Carter, like so many other severe critics of Israel, once again sailed through with a free pass from the mainstream media. |

Carter is a repugnant character… I wish he would just fade away or a few other thoughts come to mind. The mainstream media every once in a while drags him out of the closet; dusting him off so that he can spew his anti-Israel propaganda. Not surprisingly, the media, as mentioned, doesn’t challenge the worst president in American history (Obama is closing in though), which is no surprise, because the leftist media and Carter are of the same bilious ilk.
Carter’s books have been challenged for their erroneous content concerning Israel. The man was a muppet, while he was president; this fact has not changed; he remains a muppet. Toss him back in the closet; surely there is a fresh set of clothing… a white sheet. |

A year or so ago, in an interview on ABC radio in Australia, he pulled a similar stunt. He claimed that Palestinian Arabs and Israeli Jews used to interact a lot more but after the Israeli government restricted the worker permits, the interaction has ground to a halt. And the moral of his story was? You guessed it, it's all Israel's fault. The only problem is that he "forgot" to mention why Israel restricted the working permits to Palestinian Arabs. It was because of the 4 years of suicide bombing campaign that the Palestinian Arabs waged against Israeli civilians in response to Barak's peace offer or if you prefer to believe liars, then it was because of Sharon's visit of the Temple Mount (Judaism's holiest site).
No doubt about it. Carter sold his soul to the devil. Someone should tell him that telling half truths while omitting pertinent facts, is no different than telling lies. |

I don't think it's about money, it's got to something deeper than that. Carter speechwriter Bob Shrum, who has since achieved no small measure of renown as a major Democratic strategist, quit the campaign in disgust over what he saw as Carter`s penchant for fudging the truth. (So much for the "I`ll never lie to you" pledge.) Shrum also disclosed that Carter, convinced that the Jewish vote in the primaries would go to Sen. Henry "Scoop" Jackson, instructed his staff to henceforth ignore Middle East-related issues. According to Shrum, this was how Carter put it: "Jackson has all the Jews anyway....We get the Christians." Shortly before the 1980 election, Cyrus Vance, who earlier that year had resigned as Carter`s secretary of state, confirmed to then-New York mayor Ed Koch that Carter, if reelected, would "sell out" the Jews. And according to investigative journalists Andrew and Leslie Cockburn, Carter, at a March 1980 meeting with his senior political advisers, angrily snapped, "If I get back in, I`m going to f--- the Jews." On Election Day Carter was repudiated by better than half the American Jewish electorate, garnering just 45 percent of their votes. Thirty-nine percent of the Jewish vote went to Reagan, just a drop less than the 40 percent that went to Eisenhower in 1956. John Anderson, as expected, did extremely well - better than 14 percent - among Jews who were sick of Carter but could not take the step of voting Republican. http://archive.frontpagemag.com/read...px?ARTID=15865 |
