Is it just me or would a defense budget cut be GOOD for us? I don't want to say our leaders are morons, just blinded by the dollar signs and prone to buy super sexy stuff rather than practical stuff that will make us better warfighters, not a frigging advertising campaign (shakes fist angrily at stupid track suit).
Perhaps telling someone to BUILD a product BEFORE we buy it to ensure a balance between QUALITY and COST? Many civilian corporation does this; it's not a new concept. I liken it to driving through low-income housing. How many times do you see vehicles and entertainment systems that in NO WAY reflect their income? Not saying we need to cut funding for such programs, but would a little oversight on how we spend our money on ALL accounts be a bad thing? Lord knows the military is NOT doing a good job of minimizing their ridiculous spending. Exo-skeleton legs? Really? How about just listening to the WARFIGHTER and limiting excessive, REACTIVE thinking, such as RIDICULOUSLY cumbersome body armor like they did back in 2008? Long story short, it wouldn't be hard to cut costs, if everyone just stepped back, acted reasonably, and TALKED to each other as 1 MILITARY and not 5 separate Branches, and I'll use camouflage utilities as an example: Army: "Hey Marine Corps, we like your digital cammies, and we have found them to work best at what they are supposed to do; prevent our warfighters from getting seen and therefore shot. Mind if we use them too? Marine Corps: "Sure other branches! It makes no sense to have 5 separate pairs of cammies per branch just to look different, when we can instead all agree on the most effective pattern, and buy them together at a discounted price! Since we're helping each other out, let us know when you have a better product that our long-ass M-16A2! We're looking at the new M-16A4." Army: "As a matter of fact, we're using the M-4 to great avail, it has all the benefits of the longer, heavier M-16, but is lighter, and shorter! Screw the M-16A4! It's just heavier, and has a rail system." Marine Corps: "That's awesome! Sure, Order Arms might be difficult unless someone is 5 foot nothing, but who cares? Our job is to FIGHT WARS! Looking good in ceremony is merely a decorative formality that hasn't served a purpose outside of basic training since the 19th century." Navy: "Can we get BLUE cammies?!" Army, Air Force, Marine Corps: "That is the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard! What are you trying to hide from? The rescue chopper when you get blown overboard?!! Navy: "Yeah, you're right. That's dumb. I'm sorry guys." Sounds reasonable right? Yet here we are: Marines have the pointlessly long M-16A4 when many of us shooting high expert on the range with more practical M-4's, the Army and Air Force have to issue SEPARATE cammies to soldiers deploying to a combat zone because the ones they designed hid them in NO environment found on this earth other than a gravel pit, and now a sailor stands an even less chance in being rescued if blown overboard... oh yeah, the Air Force has Tiger Stripes, which needs no discussion. |
