Not sure what qualifies him in the intel world. He may be the next Patton on the battlefield, but that doens't make him a good spook.

While that may be true, I'd hope the person at the top would be.

Politics really it seems. I'm not sure why he doesn't just retire if there aren't any key military jobs for him. Although the way things are I don't think it would hurt to have him there.

The CIA Director is,,, Leon Panetta?? Former US Representitive and Slick Willie's Chief of Staff. Hardly the Intel resume Mike Hayden brought to the job. If anyone can unscrew the CIA it might be Gen P.

Petraeus...REMF went to college and got his PhD during wartime, paid the al Quaida millions of dollars to stop shooting at us in Iraq, moved on to Afghanistan/Vietnamistan...but still fighting ghosts because the al Quaida moved to Yemen 6 years ago. Considered a plan to pay the Taliban millions of dollars to stop shooting at us. Nope...doesn't sound like good CIA material to me.

Pretty sure he didn't pay AQ to stop shooting at us since they still do in Iraq and there are a lot of foreign fighters in Afghanistan. Pretty sure he's not paying the Taliban either because they're still blowing us up.

How would paying people off NOT be good CIA material though?

Same statement goes with anyone in that position who doesn't bring a career in Intel to the table when they take office.

How do you prevent a viable GOP candidate from running in 2012?

You offer him the top spot at the CIA...

But, his Daddy was a Dutch Sea Captain...so there's that whole eligibility issue....LOL.

Oh, and I suspect he's a Democrat anyway.

I don't think he would run for president. I think we need someone to square away all those jackass politicians but he hasn't made any inclinations toward it and he would have to get out of the Army to do it.

And he could most likely be a Democrat - some of those do exist in the military.
