The whining about Fort Bragg sponsoring a concert (Rock the Fort) for a Christian band had to be seen to be believed. Every concert I can remember being held on a military installation has been by a band with a secular, if not hedonist, worldview. Never once did I complain about it nor did I hear anyone else complain about it. Then for a change, a band with a different (Christian) worldview is invited and people actually complain about it?

What happened to diversity?

Thank you, put into context it's much easier to comment. Navy here so Army Times is not the first thing I turn to. Attempting to look at it through a secularized lens (not always easy to filter out personal biases) I still have difficulty understanding what the hubbub was about. If a concert that included religious themes in its music was not going to be well-received, common sense would imply it would also not be well-attended. Unless I missed something there was nothing indicating that attendance would have been compulsory. While we're at it we might as well ban all protestant/catholic religious services held underway on ships if that's the case.

Actually reading through it again I can kind of see where things may be coming from. It looks like the secular-themed concert got the short end of the stick and this advocacy group is calling the base out on it. Why was the secular-themed concert canceled? It wasn't explicitly stated as far as I can tell. I would think of it as a base commander's prerogative to cancel these types of events should overriding circumstances prevail. Like any news story we only really get the one side. I'm curious what the base commander's perspective would have been in this circumstance because I think that would be tellling.
