Marijuana has successfully been legalized in Cali, for medical use, under the basis that it is less harmful than alcohol.
Although the argument is a simplistic one, I have to agree. Pot makes people dull and passive, while alcohol makes them loose and combative. Although the increase in use is not necessarily a good thing alone, if people are indeed switching to marijuana as their drug of choice, instead of alcohol, that is a very good thing. Every drunk driver we get off the street, every spousal, or child abuse situation that would never happen. This would be a net gain for our society, even before you include how much you save on law enforcement. |
