I always wonder, do these people really "speake in tongues"? Do they really have "healing powers"? The Pentecostal/Charismatic movement is the fastest growing Christian denomination with about 600 million adherents.
Even in Orthdox countries like Russia, they have enjoyed significant growth and by 2050 some Russian experts expect to have more Pentecostals in Church on Sundays than Orthodox. The Catholic Church views the Charismatic movement as legitimate and the Charismatic Catholics are a major part of Catholicism in Latin America, Africa and Asia. I've never heard of "Charismatic Othodox" movement (where, for example, people start speaking in tongues while in Church). Does the Orthodox Church have aposition in this matter? |

Dear friends,
I am going to close this thread. On the question of 'speaking in tongues', there is some discussion in other threads on the topic, focussing in on the patristic / monastic perception of 'tongues' as mentioned in the Scriptures, etc. The question of views on other Christian bodies (e.g. Pentecostals) is outside our scope here.
