Very interesting article here: Ark of the Covenant Revealed. The Ethiopian Church appears to be "unveiling" what they have claimed is the original Ark, brought from ancient Israel by Menelik, who was the son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba and the Jewish Emperor of ancient Ethiopia.
This event is supposed to happen Friday, 26 June 2009. It should prove interesting, at least for this bear of little brain. Herman the anticipatory Pooh |

Keep us aprised Herman.
I thought I had read somewhere on this forum about a pilgrim that went there and asked the monk many questions about it and he had not even seen it and he was the gate keeper guard. He could not even say it was even behind the door he was guarding. He said no one he knew had ever seen it. So for them to show it off to the public in such a display, sounds...odd. |

I've heard what Paul's read, and I'm inclined to believe that the ark is indeed inside the Ethiopian Church. But we're not going to see it today.
Paul's skepticism is appropriate. The original article was published by the Weekly World News, the supermarket tabloid that is also running stories such as "Aliens Abduct Cheerleaders" and "Elvis IS Alive". |

Are you sure about that? The only source that I can find for this is a web based publication called "WorldNetDaily". While its editorial style is certainly sensationalist and celebrity driven, it is not "Weekly World News" stuff which is just plain MIB (pop culture reference to the movie Men In Black). I don't doubt that the basic facts are there concerning the possibility of displaying the Ark, but the hype and sensationalism with which it is reported and described and embroidered is all manufactured. http://weeklyworldnews.com/headlines...nant-revealed/ Weekly World News... The article mentioned in the first post has a link for its source: http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?f...&pageId=102119 Note the "worldnetdaily" address. I did shuffle through the site to get an idea of what kind of source it was and didn't find any obvious link to W.W.N. Fr David Moser |

Looks like the alleged Ark is still secret and safe and the end of the world is not nigh. Some more information here: Story the result of a bad translation.
I guess they decided it wouldn't do to compete with news of Michael Jackson's death. What a world we live in. |

From what I've heard the Ark may be placed in the museum being planned in Aksum, but I think it highly unlikely. Not even the "normal" arks that consecrate Ethiopia's thousands of churches are ever taken out of their sanctuaries without layerings of wrappings - how on earth could the Holy Synod allow THE Ark of God to be put on display in such a way?
Abune P'awlos, may God preserve him, is a political appointee whose support amongst the episcopate is at an all time low (not that it was ever very high). Pray for him. He's not the best patriarch Ethiopia has ever had, but he's a faithful man and has done a great deal of good... |
