Default Live web video of reunification service in Moscow?
Christ is Risen!!!

Dear Friends,

I heard that there will be a live video webcast of the signing of the Act of Canonical Communion between ROCOR and MP and the concelebrated Liturgy for Ascension from Christ the Savior Church in Moscow.

Does anyone know what the URL for this broadcast will be?

Here is all the information that I have been able to glean.

From Fr Victor B:

My understanding from the Secretary of our First Hierarch is that the service and signing of the Act of Canonical Union will be broadcast on Russian TV, and online line on the Christ the Savior Cathedral web-site. http://www.xxc.ru/

and then
From Fr Alexander L:

The ceremonies on May 17 in the Church of Christ the Savior are
scheduled to begin at 9:15 in the morning (Moscow time) with the arrival,
meeting
and vesting of Metropolitan Laurus.

Moscow is 11 hours later than Pacific Time -- so that this would be
10:15 in the evening of Wednesday night in California.

In New York it will be at 1:15am (sorry!).

The Liturgy will probably be over by 1:00pm Moscow time, which is
2:00am in California, and 5:00am in New York.

I really hope this is enough - it's what I'll be using to try and watch.

Dear Father David,

Thank you for your reply. We had received the same info from Father Alexander but had not been able to locate the exact page on the xxc.ru site from which the webcast could be accessed.

However, in the school office, our dear mutual friend (initials MK) was able to locate the correct page:

http://212.111.66.210/trans/

It appears that the video will be available via RealPlayer.

For those interested, here is another option for viewing the signing of the Act of Canonical Communion.

For those who wants to see news from Moscow about signing the "Act
of Canonical Communion" I found the link below to russian tv
station "Vesti". This chanel has exclusive rights to show this event.
Use the following link :
http://www.webtelek.com/tv.php?first=0#7

Then pick #7 station "Vesti"

Hallo!

As far as I understand the (former) ROCOR is now an autonomous church under the Patriarchate of Russia. Is this correct? What is the official name of the new autonomous church now? Is it still ROCOR?

Thank you,
Dimitris

Hello, Dimitris!

Yes, we are still ROCOR for the foreseeable future. The Act which re-established canonical communion between us and the Moscow Patriarchate has provided only spiritual unity for the time being. Other details such as administration and property will be worked out over time (probably decades).

ROCOR remains ROCOR - there has been no change in the nature of our Church, only that the damaged relationship with the other part of the Russian Church has been repaired. We are, as we always have been, an integral, self-governing part of the whole Russian Church.

Dear Father David,

to be sure, is the Russian Orthodox Church outside Russia now formally an autonomous chuch, like the Japanese Orthodox Church for example? On a Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian...Outside_Russia it says that ROCOR is a "semi-autonomous" part of the Russian church. What does this mean?

Thank you in advance,
Dimitris

P.S.: Do you maybe know a source where one can download the act of signing or even the whole liturgy?

I personally don't give a lot of credence to anything on wikipedia so I really can't speak to what might or might not be there. There is actually a unique quality to ROCOR's status as an autonomous Church and that is that there is no defined physical territory other than "outside Russa". That's a bit of an innovation in the status of an autonomous Church - otherwise ROCOR fits every other quality of autonomy.

I'm not sure, but I think I recall seeing something that the Christ the Savior Cathedral website has the entire Theophany service - including the signing of the Act and the first concelebration archived and available. I haven't looked at it myself, but this is what I've heard. The actual text of the Act is available on both the ROCOR and MP websites (and has been for quite a while)

For those wanting to see the entire reconciliation broadcast, a dvd is now available:

We have obtained a number of DVD sets of the entire five and 3/4+ hour Unification Service at Christ the Savior Cathedral on May 17.

The sets contain *5* DVD's and are playable on most home DVD players. The content is *un-edited* and includes the approximately 45 minutes of preparation time during which the camera repeatedly pans over and does close-ups of the participants.

The Video is full 720 X 480 MPEG2 Video - audio is 224Kbs/48K Audio and is quite good. We have previewed it on a 62" television and the results were very pleasing.

The DVD's have full-face 4-color on-disk printed labels (not applied paper labels).

The sets are available for $22.50 including shipping to U.S. and Canada. Additional charges for International Shipping apply.

The DVD's are NTSC, but can be provided also in PAL format if required at an additional charge of $10.00 per set.

Send payment by check or M.O. in U.S. funds with order to:
