Personal bodyguard to royalty fined for blackmail

JOHOR BARU: A personal bodyguard to a member of the royalty was fined RM10,000 or 36 months jail in default and ordered to pay RM40,000 in compensation to his victim at the Magistrates Court here Monday, after he was found guilty of blackmailing a contractor, two years ago.

Magistrate Noor Aisyah Ahmad also sentenced Ahmad Asri Mohd Redzuan, 35, known as Milo, to eight months in prison in default of paying the compensation.

According to the alternative charge under Section 384 of the Penal Code, Ahmad Asri was charged with blackmailing Zainal Awang, 53, by demanding two cheques amounting to RM40,000 to refrain from exposing the victim's alleged affair with a woman.

He committed the offence at the Perling Mall car park here on Sept 21 2010.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Ashraf Mohd Diah prosecuted and lawyer Roy Angau Anak Gingkoi appeared for Ahmad Asri. - Bernama
