Two women have been arrested for allegedly smuggling more than 7,000 methamphetamine tablets, or yaba, from Laos to Thailand and selling them to teenagers, reports said.
At a press conference on Thursday, police announced the arrest of Tai Kulsai, 44, and Tanchanok Seangsan, 29. Police said their arrest is a follow-up on recent drug busts in Kalasin province, where most of the apprehended dealers and users said they bought the drugs from these two women. Police said they secretly followed the two suspects for a while, and found out that they have drug connections in Laos. They are alleged to have smuggled the drugs across the Mekong River from Laos into Nakhon Phanom province, hiding it on their bodies. They were arrested on Wednesday when police apprehended them at the port on their return from Laos and seized 7,398 yaba pills. Police said the suspects admitted to having done the trip many times, and that they were paid 20,000 to 60,000 baht per trip. |
