Adolescents are often advised not to talk to adults on the internet, but an 11-year-old from Sichuan province has proved that it is not just adults that young users should be wary of. Using QQ, an instant messaging program, the boy blackmailed a 10-year-old female internet friend, threatening to post nude photos of her if the girl refused to give him 100 "Q" dollars, according to the Southern Metropolitan Daily. Yiyi is a 10-year-old female student at an elementary school in Wusheng county. On July 23, she met a boy named Doudou who used the name "Michelangelo" on one of her class's online QQ chat groups. The following day in the chat room, the boy induced the girl to chat with him naked, to which Yiyi complied. As they neared the end of the chat, the boy suddenly said, "Give me 100 Q dollars, or I'll publish your nude photos on the internet." Yiyi ignored what he said at first, but when she open the QQ group that night, she found that three of her nude photos had already been posted. She found another on the microblog of Michelangelo. The scared child immediately called her mother for help, who at once reported the case to the police. They were able to close the QQ group, hoping to avert the social repercussions that would inevitably follow. The police traced Michelangelo's IP address to a county in the south of the country. Together with the local police, they were able to arrest Doudou the following day. Doudou, being only 11, could not be held on criminal charges. The police were only able to reprimand him and his parents and seize his computer, which they will return after it is cleaned by the police's IT department. |
