SAMUT PRAKAN - Police have arrested five suspects and seized one million methamphetamine pills, or yaba, and 10 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, known as ice, Narcotics Suppression Bureau chief Chaiwat Chotima said on Thursday.
Pol Lt-Gen Chaiwat said the drugs, worth more than 230 million baht in total, were hidden in a truck, a car and a pickup. The five suspects, three men and two women, were trying smuggle yaba and ice from Chiang Mai into Chon Buri, he said. The suspects told investigators that they were paid 30,000 baht to deliver the drugs and that they had done this twice. Pol Lt-Gen Chaiwat said the bureau's vehicles equipped with x-ray machines are not able to probe the interior of large vehicles. The scanner can only be used on small vehicles, he added. Meanwhile, police in Nonthaburi found three bags containing about 100,000 yaba pills on a street outside a village. Officers were checking the footage of a close circuit television camera, looking for witnesses and collecting fingerprints from the bags. Police believed the area where the bags were discovered was a meeting point for the drug dealers. |
