A woman who was locked up and beaten by her South Korean boyfriend in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has been rescued.

Kim Yung Teak, 39, locked 22-year-old Dinh Thi Thuy Dung in their house twice on Thursday, police said.

Dung told the police that around Wednesday midnight Teak saw a man ride her home. Enraged, he locked her up in their house and hit her with a golf club.

Her friend intervened and Dung was released more than one hour later. She left for him and did not return until later the same day.

However, she was locked up and beaten again, the woman said.

Dung said she started dating the Korean man five months ago and they moved into the house three months later after he told her that he had lost all his documents and could not stay at a hotel anymore.

“I paid all his expenses including the rent,” Dung said.

Meanwhile, Teak told the police that he entered Vietnam eight years ago. He had worked as a waiter at a karaoke shop for two years, but does not have a steady job now.

Further details about Teak's residency in Vietnam have not been released. The case is being investigated further.
