Default Yingluck Shinawatra Responds To Criticisms
May 30, 2012 23:24 BJT | CCTV

Thai PM Responds To Criticism About Her Background, Reveals Economic Policy For Country’s Future in a one-to-one
interview with acclaimed interviewer and broadcast journalist Rui Chenggang from China Central Television during her first official
State Visit to China on 13 April, 2012.

"This is a very big challenge for a woman, because people have high expectations for me. But I will bring female's merits into my work. Woman is also a symbol for
peace in the political circle. I'll use this merit to try to approach every corner of the society and treat my own people with a sincere heart." - Yingluck Shinawatra

Critics held that Yingluck Shinawatra's only political qualification lies in the fact that she's the youngest sister of deposed Prime Minister
Thaksin Shinawatra. This is true to some extent, as her experience in politics could be called as "vacuum" before she rose to the current
post in August 5, 2011.

However, Yingluck Shinawatra personally holds a different view towards this issue. During a recent exclusive interview with China Central
Television (CCTV), she responded to those criticism by saying, "I just hope people can give me a chance, because they gave chances to
my brother, twice. So, I hope they can give me one. Although I'm not familiar with politics, I was born in a family that is particularly familiar
with it. This point has influenced me to play a role in politics and I need to play it well. Besides, I believe that except for focusing on a
particular person, people usually pay more attention to the policies and the whole members of a political party during the election. Thus,
they supported me, and I was elected as the Prime Minister for many reasons."

There's no doubt that the policy of Yingluck Shinawatra's political party weighed heavily on Thai people's choice. And it seemed to become
increasingly prominent after one of Thailand's most serious flood crisis occurred in 2011.

"The flood was rare in Thailand's history, so recovery and reconstruction are the government's critical tasks. The recovery and reconstruction
require large amount of capital, part of which is from the government while the other comes from enterprises. We will try to help people
return to normal life as soon as possible. The government has worked out a long-term policy to tackle floods. Meanwhile, we will also build
dams and improve water conservancy to restore investors' confidence in Thailand," said Yingluck Shinawatra during the interview.

When asked about the plans for the future, the Thai PM said that debt deduction and income increase remain to be two core economic policies.

Yingluck Shinawatra also expressed her prospect for Sino-Thai relations, "Thailand agreed on building a comprehensive strategic partnership
with China. I also hope to promote cooperation in areas such as railways, water conservancy and tablet PC. Both sides held discussions on
economy, trade, investment as well as tourism while set the target to increase bi-lateral trade volume by 20 percent. I think these achievements
will help foster a closer relationship between the two countries in economy, trade and other aspects."
