Default Yingluck will donate paddy land to the King
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says she will donate seven rai of land worth 20 million baht at Thung Makham Yong in Ayutthaya province on behalf of the Shinawatra family to His Majesty the King when he visits the area tomorrow.

Ms Yingluck said the land was a historical area and she will explain details of the plot after the donation is made.

A source said the land is the experimental rice field from which the King harvested rice from on May 14, 1996.

A source at the provincial land office said the land was bought from four joint owners who live in Bangkok.

His Majesty, accompanied by Her Majesty the Queen and members of the royal family, will leave Siriraj Hospital at 4pm and arrive at Thung Makham Yong in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district at 5.20pm.

The field is in the same area as the kaem ling (monkey cheek) water retention royal project which was initiated by the King 16 years ago.

It will be His Majesty's first trip outside Bangkok and its neighbouring provinces since he was admitted to the hospital on Sept 19, 2009.

Their Majesties the King and Queen will stay at Thung Makham Yong for about two hours to watch folk performances, including a light and sound show, a boat procession and an elephant procession organised in their honour by provincial authorities and residents of Ayutthaya for the visit.

Laithongrian Meepan, owner of the Elephant Kraal in Ayutthaya, said 11 elephants were to be given a bath yesterday to ensure all parts of their bodies are clean to prepare for the royal visit.

The elephants will be clad in elaborate traditional costumes for the procession. A team of veterinarians and skilled mahouts will be on hand to look after the animals.
