A DANCER given just 72 hours to live after her appendix burst has battled back to win a Miss England semi-final spot half a year after her life hung in the balance. Jodie Duckworth, 18, underwent emergency surgery after her appendix ruptured, causing life-a threatening blood infection. Doctors feared they could not save Jodie’s life or that she would be wheelchair-bound. But she has since made a remarkable recovery — even signing up to become Miss England. Jodie, who has recovered so well she can study dance at a performing arts college, said doctors described her amazing turnaround as a “miracle”. Jodie added: “I want to show people that you can overcome anything if you set your mind to it. Having experienced such a traumatic situation I want to live life to the max and grasp every opportunity that comes my way.” She will battle it out with 55 other semi-finalists to bag one of 14 spaces in the final. |
