Domestic arguments between lovers will often end in tears or long silences - but they usually don't end with emergency services having to extract a frightened man from a high-rise apartment's garbage chute. The local fast-response team in Tyumen, Russia, can be forgiven for thinking their latest call-out was a bit of a wind-up, when they were told a man had been heard calling for help from within the walls of a residential apartment building on Ulitsa 30 Let Pobedi. When the fire service arrived, officers quickly discovered one of the building's residents caught the garbage disposal chute - his head just visible from one of the latches that residents can use to put their refuse through on each floor. It turns out that the 31-year-old man, who has not been named to spare his blushes, was trying to escape an argument with his girlfriend. Or at least that's what he said. He would not tell the police what the row was about, and it is unclear whether the girlfriend was present when the emergency services arrived. But the man said he jumped into the garbage chute on the eighth floor, where he shares an apartment with his girlfriend - apparently with her in hot pursuit. Gravity then took over and the man plunged three floors - getting wedged fast in the narrowing chute. |
